Next step for Peyton: Workout(s)

So Peyton Manning is a free agent, perhaps the biggest name to hit the open market in league history. So what’s next, apart from the perfunctory speculation on the teams that may be interested? (It’s on my to-do list to do just that.)

Before anyone will sign Peyton Manning, he’ll need to show that he can throw. And if he hopes to find a new team before the game of musical chairs known as free agency commences, he’ll need to get some workouts scheduled.

Manning’s camp knew that he’d most likely be cut this week. Thus, like a free agent who somehow has a plane ticket in his hand the moment the market opens, why hasn’t Manning already lined up his first visit?

The fact that no visits have been reported or announced is prompting speculation among some league insiders that, notwithstanding last week’s Zapruder film, he doesn’t yet have the ability to throw the way he needs to throw in order to get teams to throw money at him.

If this process doesn’t move quickly, that speculation could have some merit.

And this, dear friends, is the concern of greatest import.

Yet hope remains ... if Manning flings the rock deep and his arm comes off in the process, he's still an upgrade over Matty Two Yards on third down.

I'm pretty sure a vagina would be an upgrade over Matt Cassel.

Pretty sure a blue waffle would be an upgrade over Matt Cassel.

(If you don't know what a blue waffle is, you're lucky......don't google it  )

Seahawks Promise Peyton Manning Shot At Starting Job

SEATTLE-The Seahawks are making a hard push for quarterback Peyton Manning, who has just been released by the Colts and is now a free agent. In an effort to convince Manning to sign with the Seahawks, coach Pete Carroll has guaranteed him a shot at the starting job currently held by Tarvaris Jackson. “Peyton will absolutely be competing for the starting job if he signs here,” said Carroll. "We're going to have an open competition in camp between him, Tarvaris, and Charlie Whitehurst. He'll be given equal consideration with all of them. If he has the best camp, the job is his. If not, Tarvaris or Charlie will go in there, and Peyton will just have to be ready when his number is called.”

The one good thing a team like KC has going for them, if you believe they actually will try to get him, is that Peyton thinks things through. He certainly is going to want money, but I think he is so determined to win as both a competitor and to prove the doubters wrong that winning will just count for nearly everything.

Teams can throw him a parade, give him hookers, blow him whenever he calls....when he is done enjoying all of that, he is going to make a smart decision. I think KC would be one, but I am biased. Maybe being a Chiefs fan it helps me see how talented they are or maybe I am seeing more than there is. Either way, atleast we know this guy isn't going to be sold with bells and whistles. That is unless you are talking about bells and whistles that are used on a football field. In that case we have plenty.

I will say it again, if, and it obviously is a monster if, the Chiefs make a real play for him, I think they have to be at the very top of the list. If all 5 or 6 major players for him offered roughly the same amount and gave roughly equal pitches, I think KC is at the top of the list with all the rest of the things he will be looking for. Living enviornment, roster, division, crowd, media, and conference. It all comes down to the effort the organization puts out, although that may be the worst news for us Chiefs fans to hear.

Top destinations appear to be different than national media thinks. KC, Denver, Washington, have all been in the deepest talks with Condon

Miami knows it can sit back and let the other teams do the basic negotiations, get word of workouts and medical evals and then go in at the end and still have the upper hand.
