Iowa has a state tax of $0.20 on gas.

Kansas is $0.24

Kansas has a higher tax on diesel than Iowa by a few cents, so something else is up there. I think Kansas has a few refineries that refine diesel, too.

Anyway, swings of ~$0.20 aren't unusual in metro areas. Look around on gasbuddy.com and you'll see.

Donger, what do you think are the causes of the falling prices?

Isnt it obvious? People are inflating their tires and getting Tune ups.

ROFL I remember when the Dems got Ketchup bottles out to make fun of Reagan cutting some school lunch subsidy or something.

Now it is Tire pressure gauges.

Interesting. I didn't realize states swung so far on their respective taxes.

BTW, I was talking about the Missouri side of Kansas City.

3.99 a gal. and crude has fallen to $91/barrel. WTF? How the hell can gas rise 40-50 cents in 2 weeks while oil is falling? Paging Donger...

Because gasoline prices follow crude under normal conditions. It will drop.

And, the retail average isn't $3.99.

$3.83, which is artificially high due to Ike. It should, and will, be around $3.60.

Donger 09-22-2008 01:27 PM

Unfortunately, crude jumped $25/barrel today.

The bailout and the falling dollar. Has nothing to do with fundamentals.
