And now sounds like Matheny is getting ready to send out Lovelady instead of Staumont? I’m guessing the Cards have some lefties coming up? Otherwise, not sure why you make this move if you’re trying to close out the game. |

Worked out, I guess. But still don’t understand the decision.
Whatever. Two teams going nowhere. Hopefully Matheny and Moore realize this and can let the guys that need to be playing on a regular basis, play, so you can get a nice long look at them before the end of the year. |

Serious logjam at catcher there. The million dollar question is will they bring some of these guys up in September, or leave them all there and get the experience of being in a playoff race together like they did with Hosmer/Moose/etc. Omaha is in 1st place in their division.

I feel like they've got to be planning a move of some kind. Either Viloria or Rivero traded, or Gallagher traded, or something. Melendez HAS to be slated for every day AB - but where?

Hernandez threatening a Nicky Lopez like emergence this season.

Hernandez has very elite stuff.
Stuff+ (which factors in velocity, movement, spin rate, and release distance from the plate, among other things) backs that up. He’s top 20 in baseball. It’s nasty, nasty stuff. If he can add some consistency you’re looking at a real potential find. Worst case, I think he ends up as a good late inning guy. He also has cyborg dominance potential in the back end as a medium case, and #2 starter as his best outcome. |

How does Greg Holland ever get anyone out? All he does is throw 37 sliders in the dirt every inning and hope someone swings occasionally.

Crazy game. Probably would have won if they didn't pinch run for Sal like 3 hours ago or if they let Olivares PH in a meaningful situation or if they didn't let Greg Holland throw 430 pitches.

He'd have promising prospects and let them rot too much on the bench in favor of crappy vets that he played out of position pretty frequently. It's not just a him thing - Arizona is doing the same thing right now with C/OF stud prospect Daulton Varsho - but it's frustrating. |
