What happens if Croyle stinks and Huard goes down? I wonder what kind of explosion we'll see here...

I love Trent, given the situation, give the guy what he wants and let him go. We owe him that..

Well, actually Trent Green turned on the team in my opinion. No player is above the team, none.
He cried like a bitch, during that interview last week, that did it for me.
His strengths were loyalty and leadership and he took a dump on both of those.
I don't like him even being associated with the Chiefs anymore, after what he said.

As an outsider I guess I put more stock in NewChief's take on where Green is coming from than I do the takes of media or fans.
Obviously you have a stake in this situation whereas I'm only an observer and so you are probably better qualified to assess the situation than am I.

I didn't hear the interview...what'd he say?

booger 05-08-2007 11:02 AM

Personally I loved green and backed him even when his struggles were hard to watch, mostly his first season which was an adjustment for everyone.

He's stepped up in the pocket and taken a beating making some very key passes. It was really awesome seeing some of the blocks he made. As long as he got up from them that always put a huge smile on my face.

I understand the circumstance and I really don't have a problem with most of his interview. The things that piss me off are:

Calling the young guys nieve. Very lame IMO.

Making the big deal of Hicks' release. We don't hear Eric bitching do we? Ever year players get cut after the draft or after June 1. I don't know how much more classy we could have been. He is one of the few vets that they release a statement thanking the family as well as the player for his on and off field contributions. He must not have got the memo that overpaid underproductive players are no out the door since DV is no longer around. Especially after the draft that it is clear he is not needed. The NFLPA must be furious with the news that Keyshawn was released after the draft. What an injustice.

I don't know if this has been discussed much but he also alluded to the thinking that some vets were confused about what is going on this offseason and the direction we are headed. Who exactly would this be? All most all of our D has been overhauled with Sims and Hicks being cut. Shields retired and I don't think Green's situation had much if anything to do with that. Kennison is a vet that from his recent interview seems excited to teach Bowe and Webb and the rest of the youngsters. Also seems ok with the QB situation. Hell, Tony Gonzalez was on NFL totall access back in early March and didn't really seem to care one way or another except he seemed to side W/ Huard. Probably because of Huard's vet status and Gonzalez like most vets don't look forward to a rookie QB's struggles. Understandable but he didn't seem confused to me. Maybe Casey Wiegmann is pissed. Samie Parker too.

The whole changing the offense thing. Maybe when DV, Saunders, Trich, Holmes, and Roaf leave at the same time you have to change a bit. He must have been with the rest of the bunch in "don't touch it, leave it alone" not realizing we had no choice.

Maybe he didn't realize it was and is time to slim down the playbook and get the opportunity for some skilled position guys on the field. Let them go out and play while not thinking about the 765 pg playbook. The shorter practice took away from what they were used to with installing and running all those plays. I don't recall any vets bitching with shorter practices and keeping their legs fresh.

Maybe he didn't realize this offense drastically changed the day Priest Holmes was injured and LJ became the starter.

I don't hate him. I hope to always remember him with the rest of the exciting offense. I think it would be cool to have him team w/ Mitch Holthus someday. Those are the only parts of the interview I have problems with. It sure didn't help that KK was doing the interview.

The crazy thing is, I agree with a lot of what he said. I just didn't agree with him airing it out in public.

Not only that, he did it with a guy that seems to hate the team, and Carl Peterson. So it was premeditated without question IMO.

He basically tore down, everything he had accomplished, in those previous years of doing and saying the right things.

And for those that say the Chiefs owe him something, after reflecting on that interview, I no longer think they do.

I have NO problem with Green wanting to play somewhere else.

I have NO problem with Green not wanting to play for Herm.

I have NO problem with Green not wanting to be part of a conservative offense that won't showcase him near as much.

I have NO problem with Green making "tough" comments in an effort to spur a trade.

I actually had ZERO problem with Trent Green up to the point where he said "the reason the Chiefs are going young is because the young players are naive".

He also said that LJ was a punk ass wanksta.

It could be the new offensive system sucks. Absolutely.

Or it could be that Green is used to being the center of attention of coach that clearly cared about proving to the world he was an offensive genious, everything else be damned.

Go back and listen to the interview. Notice that Green didn't ONCE mention WINNING. But he made it clear that he didn't understand why the offense had to change because the offense was "setting records and putting up huge stats".

ROFL

I must have missed that. I remember KK bringing up them trying to trade LJ though. Jared Allen told Carlotta LJ was a punk and everyone knows it. I don't have a hard time believing it. Hopefully we can control it enough that it doesn't cause too many problems. But Athan tells me everything will be OK once the blockbuster trade happens.

I know for a fact that when Herm came in, he asked Trent if he minded that they would be changing the offense. Trent told him, "I don't care, as long as we're winning." He understands why the offense changed. He doesn't understand why the playcalling became borderline idiotic, like in the playoff game.

Um...the words came out of TRENT GREEN'S OWN MOUTH.
