The speech would have been a lot more effective if the niners weren't down 20+ points to a hapless/injured Seahawks team.

whoman69 10-28-2008 09:15 AM

That is why I wanted Singletary as the Chiefs coach.

nah i dont think you can get penalized... The Skins' did it for Sean Taylor after his death, no penalty, but the D did fall apart on that play.

Pushead2 10-28-2008 10:56 AM

Singletary = Black Ditka.

Fairplay 10-28-2008 11:08 AM

Well, I will judge later how he is as a coach. Like a year or two.

Some aren't cut out for that type of job and would be better as say a corner back coach, like Herm for example.

But if you are going to go the the hard line approach you better prepare to
discipline a high profile player to set an example for the rest of the team.

Exactly the way I see it.

Come coach the chiefs Singletary.

L.A. Chieffan 10-28-2008 11:11 AM

I don't really give a shit either way but Davis was the only player that ran all the way down to tackle the guy who picked off O'Sullivan and scored. He could have easily just given up as the rest of the team had and said **** it but at least he gave an effort. I think Singletary is just trying to change the general attitude of the team but I think he picked the wrong guy to use for an example.

I know this will be pretty unpopular but you know what you'd get with a Mike Singletary type of coach?

A coach who runs the ball up the gut 3 times in a row trying to milk the clock.

Listen to what else he said in that speech. "Don't give away games." - Translation? Safe, short passes. Ball control.

That's Herm Edwards for ya.

Was the rant great! Hell yeah. But does that make him a good coach? No.

Bring in an offensive mind. Somebody who truly plays aggressive and to win the game.

So the Chiefs can lose by 20+ points in their first game to a one win team? We already have that, minus the killer eyes.

No, the translation is you don't keep doing the stupid things that lose games for you. I applaud him for calling out Davis. Listening to Davis today I think the message was received. I think his sheet up to this point was that he had all the talent in the world but not the work ethic. I don't believe that you make a player better by asking them would they please play harder. Pretty please. Treat him like a man and make him aware he has to live up to his resposibilites. Singletary has the rep behind it to make this stick. He played the game the way its supposed to be played. I don't believe in yelling for yelling's sake. You have to be able to reward players that are doing the right things.
I don't think with Mike Martz as your OC that a conservative offense is a possibility. Even he needs to be reigned in now and then. Martz lost that game against the Pats when he only ran Faulk 9 times. You use the weapons that you have, not just the ones you want to use.

crazycoffey 10-28-2008 11:50 AM

Just watched it, seems overblown - hard to say it was a "rant". Besides since VD seems ok with it, perhaps it was a smart move by a new coach that wants to set a tone for his style of coaching.

I bet the players think he's a player's coach, and not soft either.....

I'm sorry, but it doesn't necessarily translate to that.
Although you are correct that it doesn't make him agood coach, but I would hire him, and give him a chance.

As for your offensive mind who plays aggressively.
that was our last coach. 0 playoff wins.

'Hamas' Jenkins 10-28-2008 02:36 PM

Singletary had 34 tackles in a single game against Houston in 1978.

Holy shit.

'Hamas' Jenkins 10-28-2008 02:38 PM

The Bears went on to win 21-0. In the NFC Championship Game vs. the Los Angeles Rams, Singletary and the Bears dominated again. Mike Ditka said that the day before the game, he was talking to the offense while Singletary was in the next room giving the defense a motivational speech. While it started out quiet, within minutes, Samurai Mike was screaming at the top of his lungs and the defensive players were throwing chairs and knocking over tables.
