There is one other team out there that could land his Dad, but KC is closer to Denver and Shanahan would like to be as close to Colorado as possible. Anyway, take it for what it's worth.

So Cowher bought that Kansas house for Shanny. :hmmm:

Quite a few actually, and we didn't still have a GM in place when those interviews were going on. As far as we all know we still have a head coach in place.

Uhhh what makes you so sure that Herm is still the coach? He could have been fired last week. They don't have to announce firings publically when it happens. Especially when the head coach that was fired has $4 million reasons to stay quiet about it.

Hootie 01-22-2009 09:56 AM

I say too good to be true...

Shanahan and Pioli?! Holy wow...at least we won't have to bitch about gameday coaching anymore!

he has $4 million dollars no matter what...he doesn't have to stay quiet about it...if he is fired, maybe he's staying quiet out of respect for Clark?...but it's not like he has to stay quiet about anything.

I'm assuming a deal was worked out. He can't go out bad mouthing the chiefs if he ever wants to work in the NFL again. He went won 2 games in 24 tries. He wasn't done wrong.

Here is a couple things on the rooney rule so everyone will stop saying that interviewing Edwards takes care of it, probably a repost but at least it's not a new thread...............

Rooney Rule still in play for Chiefs
Posted: Adam Schefter | Adam Schefter | Tags: Kansas City Chiefs, Herm Edwards, Scott Pioli

It hasn’t come up, and it might not. But if it should, here’s the answer to a question that some have posed since the Kansas City Chiefs hired general manager Scott Pioli on Wednesday.

Pioli’s meetings with Chiefs coach Herm Edwards don’t meet the requirements of the Rooney Rule, which mandates that NFL teams interview at least one minority head-coaching candidate.

The interpretation of the Rooney Rule is that teams can’t meet with an incumbent minority for the purpose of creating a vacancy and claim that they have followed the rule. The rule isn’t followed unless a legitimate minority candidate is interviewed.

It’s permissible for Pioli to fire Edwards, but it isn’t permissible for him to hire, say, Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz without first interviewing at least one minority head-coaching candidate.

Pioli said Wednesday that he plans to meet with Edwards before making any decisions about whom the Chiefs’ head coach will be. If Pioli retains Edwards, this point is moot. But if Pioli moves in another direction, he and the Chiefs still must comply with the Rooney Rule.

The NFL is not going to be sticklers regarding the Rooney Rule with the Chiefs...they can make a judgment call on this. I don't care what the letter of the "rule" states...this is not even going to be an issue for a team that currently employs an African American coach. Plus, why is anyone worried about this? Do you actually think Clark/Pioli are so stupid to have not thought of the Rooney Rule implications? A bunch of nervous-Nancy's around here.

Hootie 01-22-2009 10:01 AM

Shanahan...wow. Like I said...at least we won't have to bitch about gameday coaching!
