Yeah, and his juice buddy Sosa wasn't getting any press at all, was he?

Hypocrite much? LMAO

At least McGwire didn't used a corked bat.

2.) Tons of sour grapes from Royals fans? There was exactly one Royals fan, Great Expectations, a poster I've never seen before this thread. There were other posters, some Royals fans some not, that expressed doubts over Pujols' true age. But that's not sour grapes, that's legit concern. Posnanski's article is partly about that very issue.

6) Joakim Soria, with his .68 WHIP, disagrees.

Soria didn't pitch in a playoff game or close out a game that really mattered all season. Oh, and Soria didn't go 41/41 on save opps.

Lidge, on the other hand, saved 7 in the playoffs alone and gave up 1 ER the whole time while striking out 13 and allowing only 8 baserunners. Did I mention he went an entire season without blowing a save? Nor did he ever take a loss. In a season when they made the playoffs by 3 games, that's huge.

When you did it matters as much as how you did it when you're talking about a closer. Soria had a great season, but he blew a few games and didn't ever face 'nut cutting' time. Had Soria been closing for Philly and blown the handful of games he did, they don't make the playoffs.

Lidge was better.

I'm not worried about a precipitous drop in Pujols' numbers because he's a line drive hitter. He's never been a guy like Jim Thome who needs to elevate the ball to get it out of the park. He has a ruthlessly efficient swing.

He's not like McGwire (all arms, which kills your back) or Edmonds (pure uppercut).

'Hamas' Jenkins 03-12-2009 10:02 AM

The thing about Lidge:

There's no point at swinging at any of his pitches. Just lay the bat on your shoulder. He almost never throws the slider for a strike, even if it comes out of his hand looking like one, and he can't put a fastball anywhere near the zone.

He's the rare instance of a guy who would be much worse as a middle reliever (where there is nowhere near as much pressure to get on base) than a closer.

As a Royals fan I care very little about beating the Redbirds, I am much more concerned with beating the White Sox, the Twins, the Tigers and the Indians as well as the Yak's. Beating the team from the other side of the state is midway down the totem pole.

THIS. ABSOLUTELY, 100% THIS.

I'll never understand the level of hatred some of the idiot ass Royals fans have towards the Cardinals. These two teams have played ONE truly meaningful series, it was over 20 years ago, and the Royals won. Other than that, this is just another team that they play six times out of a 162 game schedule.

If we were in the same division I would hate the Cardinals much more than any other team in the league. But since we aren't it is nice to beat them but we have bigger fish to fry. If there were ever another I-70 series ESPN would absolutely shut down their baseball coverage, they might cover it via telephone with local guys like Greg Shaum and Soren Petro and over in St Louis with guys like Bob Fesko <sp>.

I agree if the Royals has moved to the NL instead of the brewers. What a mistake on the Royals part. A "real" rivialry could have developed with the Cards, Cubbies come to town alot. A missed oppertunity.

It goes both ways, dude.

I have no ill will toward the Cards or their fans, but it's the whole "we're the best baseball town in the country" thing that rubs many wrong. STL arrogance, if you will.

Combine that with much '85 butthurt that still persists, and you have a recipe for annoyance.

In Division re-alignment....
The Royals had 1st chance to be in NL Central............. but no (why not play Midwest teams. Cincy, Chicago Cubs, Houston, Pittsburgh)

instead we got Brewers.

Rivalry might have met something instead of 6 games. We can tryout our AAA pitchers against.

AAA? ROFL

Are you disappointed that KC will take the season series again this year?

Manny covers the plate better than Albert. Manny's the best bad-ball hitter I've ever seen and likely the best I ever will. He doesn't have the focus Albert has, but Manny is a more talented hitter. Albert's better at keeping an inside fastball fair down the LF line, but Manny can take any ball within 8 inches of the zone in any direction and hit it hard. His lack of preparation will lead to him taking some akward swings and getting off balance(which Pujols never does), but I've seen him put a ball 425 feet while swinging off his front foot with one arm. Manny is possibly the most talented RH hitter of all time.
Yea, I kind of spoke quickly there. Didn't really acknowledge Manny at all there. Certainly wasn't meant as a slight.
