well the year before he was one of the top few receivers in the league, so the ability is there

Jason Taylor wouldn't be a DE here, he'd be an OLB.

We draft 3-4 DE's and Taylor would be a rushbacker. Besides we need depth at the DE spot for a 3-4 as well.

Ah. Well in either case I wouldn't be too terribly interested. The one thing I liked about Herm's tenure was the youth movement. Of course, Herm effed it up by going to an extreme but Pioli has taken us somewhat back to center with some vet signings. Overall, I would still prefer to sign guys that will still be contributing 3 or 4 or 5 years from now.

Well, if we need depth we should just sign some RFAs because, collectively on the Dline, we have two guys drafted in the 1st round, one guy drafted in the 2nd round and two guys drafted in the third round. I know we were beyond awful last year and I know we are going to a new defensive scheme but I would really prefer to at least see these guys in the new scheme with the new coaches before I give up on any of them.

Taylor wouldn't provide depth at DE unless we were running a 4-3. He's ALMOST undersized for the 4-3, let alone the 3-4.

We need rush linebackers and that's what he would play here.

This isn't like what Carl did. We're not signing 31-year old guys with the hope that they'll play 4 or 5 more years. We're signing 35-year old guys with the idea that they'll play THIS YEAR until we have a chance to get another draft under our belt.

This!

so no one has ESPN insider and feeling generous?

RedThat 04-29-2009 08:47 PM

I'd take Jason taylor. I still think he's got game.

soundmind 04-29-2009 09:02 PM

Julius Peppers would cost us picks, I say fuck that.

Jason Taylor is a dancer, a prancer, and a Madonna fan club member. While both can obviously make a dent on defense, I'd hesitate on either one for various reasons.

As long as whoever we bring in is playing for the Chiefs and not themselves, I'm good with it...

Might want to check page 2 of this thread. The info on ESPN insider was already posted there.

Agreed. We signed Vets to positions we needed help with. They bring Leadership to the team and can help school the youth movement. Next year or so we draft those positions.

I agree completely. Ive noticed this same trend and feeling. I like it though. I think it will work in the long run.

This is so true, we'll be drafting some linebackers too. Realistically we may only have Vrabel on the roster after this season. DJ might not be resigned is he eats the cat shit this year, and unless we find a gem in some of those undrafted FA's our linebackers could be the area of concern. On a side note, I think there may be a chance this star is a linebacker...who knows ESPN could be blowin' smoke...
