The cheapest decent 1 BR place I would be able to find is around $850.

Making Minimum wage (which is now $8 in California), working at 40 hours a week, is $1387 a month (before taxes).

$1387 x .75 = $1040 (after taxes)

$1040 - $850 = $190

That leaves you $190 a month for everything else.

Its tough to do in San Diego, is all I'm saying.

No offense but everything about that post tells me you enjoy living with mommy. Lower your requirements on a place Get a roommate or another job if you really wanted to move out. If not that's cool too.

I'm not arguing that you should live in a hovel. I think roommates are a vital part of growing up. I just think you could have left years ago, had you wanted to.

And I say that as a mother who will probably have to be forcibly taken from her son when he tries to leave.

Yeah, but minimum wage was $6.25 when I earned that ($1.75 less than it is now), yet renting an apartment was still the same back then, if not a little more.

I do enjoy it, a lot. Free meals, not exactly free rent, but a lot less than now.

Did you see that I moved out when I was 18, for 5 months? I had to move back in for financial reasons.

I think that has a lot to do w/ me missing my mom.

P.S. did you ever read the thread about the gay bar?

Oh c'mon. Half an hour left at work. Entertain me with an internet beatdown!

I start work on the 17th, looking forward to having a J.O.B. again. The GI bill is nice, but by the time rent and bills are paid, I'm flat broke during the school year.

Hoping to find some steady work for during next semester. I should be able to save some from my summer job, but the GI bill shuts off during summer, so it will probably end up balancing out.

Depends on what kind of beatdown you have in mind.

Yeah I was last semester, moved to Columbia in January though and had to give up that great great job.

Was a great choice, start paying rent, and quit my job...

That's ok though, it's almost summer when I can realistically work again. I'm taking 17 hours this semester and it has been a rough one.
