I'm saying Pioli might think that McD cannot be sold as a head coach right now, but is salvageable as an OC even after this disaster that is the Rams. And Romeo probably doesn't have more than 3 years left in him anyway with his age and hip. But he's been through the trials of being a HC before, and is one of those guys who probably just wants to oversee the defense and hand over the offense to whoever and get out of the way. So Pioli looks at that and says great, we can have defensive continuity, hand over the entire offense to McD, and if after two to three years our offense is playing at a proficient level and winning us games, then it becomes an easier sell to say my buddy McD deserves a second shot.
Now, in no way do I endorse this plan, but I would not be shocked to see it happen. And if it does happen, I would be surprised to see any of this regime last for three more years unless they find themselves a franchise QB...
