Why would we improve? It's not like the players haven't been under a top-notch coaching staff for the last 4 years.

I'll just say this....this team has way too much talent as far as starters go to suck as bad as we did last season.

It's coaching....and it's QB play.

Improvement from both and things will start to slide into place. I don't expect us to be a playoff team....there will be some adjustments to get used to etc. But I think we can be 8-8 this season and make a serious deep playoff push next season, but that all really depends on QB play.

I'm not too excited about Alex Smith, because we all pretty much know what his ceiling is...he's not gonna be someone like Brees or Brady or Manning who's gonna put up gaudy stat numbers...it's gonna be similar to the same formula that we tried w/ Cassel. Run the ball, set up the pass...high completion throws, don't turn the ball over. That can work (though it's not pretty) but you have to keep the football, Cassel wasn't doing that.

It's the same shit we've seen....we're going to rent Alex Smith for 4-5 years and then we'll be in the same position then. Except only then most of the players will be old and our projected "window" will be closed.

We better have some kickass drafts between now and then.
