Heck, the girls have admitted that already. They were spooked over hearing the scary rape stories earlier that day. The weird part is that the female agent approached them first and they didn't cooperate with her.

At least according to the story here, their approach was completely excessive. I could be mis-reading it but, it comes across as guns were pulled and Hollywood hood jumping took place before the girls fled. And seven agents? Really? It could have been handled in a much less alarming way.

And as it turns out, they were also wrong in their suspicions. They may have been doing their jobs but they wrong in everything from their assessment of the situation to their handling of it.
