If you lived in Washington DC, would you want to hear about the 2-14 Chiefs (no playoff wins in 19 years) or the horrible Royals (none in 28 years).

So what if those markets are bigger. It's a 24-hour sports network. They only generate enough content for about 2 hours of programming. Then they repackage it and talk it into the ground for the next 22 hours, then repeat.

There are 32 NFL teams, if each team had a half hour show once a week it wouldn't even take up a whole day of programming. Hell, if they just had a half hour show for each division, I might be interested in watching.

Of course their ratings are down...MLB, NFL and NBA all have their own networks. I watch MLB Network constantly during baseball season. Around the Horn and PTI are good...but what's the point of watching SportsCenter when MLB Network is all baseball, all the time and that's the only major sport in play right now? I don't get my football update from Herm freaking Edwards on NFL Countdown every day...I have the internet for that.

Newsflash: ESPN down 32% in ratings

Apparently, I'm not alone....

The total focus on NY or LA is only part of it. They have gone the MTV route – appealing to the lowest common denominator and being more “entertainment” than “news”. They pick their little pets (Lakers, Lebron, Tebow, Yankees) and center the entire station around them.

Not to mention propping up trolls like Skip Bayless and Stephen A. Smith.

Hootie 07-11-2013 02:08 PM

...and with the dumbass government banning online poker...they can't even whore out the WSOP this time of year for cheap ratings grabs because no one cares anymore since we can't play anymore

Yep. Sports has taken a backseat to entertainment.

I think you're wrong. Cowherd, the best radio personality in sports, says it best. He's paid to get ratings. LA gets ratings. The Yankees get ratings. LeBron gets ratings. San Antonio does not. If ESPN started talking about Salvador Perez everyday their ratings would drop 200%. It is what it is.

They shouldn't be talking about anything every single day. But they sure do.

This is a Chiefs themed board, right? If you read the NBA mega thread...who are people on this board fans of? The Lakers and LeBron.

Hootie 07-11-2013 02:18 PM

(on a KANSAS CITY board)

I don't know anything about those teams. Maybe if they got some coverage I would.

There are enough teams that they shouldn't have to talk about the same teams all day every day. If they had a weekly show about the Chiefs and other sports teams I like, I would tune in regularly. As it is, they could go under and I wouldn't give a shit

Never apoligized to Loomis, nothing.

Now they get what they deserve.

I bet they still devote a whole staff to Tebow though.

kcxiv 07-11-2013 02:46 PM

Its about mlb network right now. They got some solid shows if u like baseball. Intentional talk and the Harold Reynolds and brian Kenny show they got are good. ESPN sucks outside of live sports and pti.

Its TMZ shit now. They need to go back to mostly about sports and not the forced drama.
