Where did you get that info from? According to this neat interactive graphic, we're only the 7th highest-spending team in the league.

I think Poe's biggest improvement from last year is his ability to shed blockers. Last year blockers that could not move him could tie him up. Yesterday he was shedding blockers at will.
Gonna be fun watching this kid.

No the true disaster is utilizing talent that we had in the wrong scheme, now that's just moronic

(Please dont let this simple post turn this tread into a QB debate....maybe I should delete this post.)

Not to mention the limited number of 3 and out, and last year we were stringing together quite a number of those. Hell, we didn't lead in a game until week 46 and had our defense on the field playing from behind and winded almost exclusively!

Watching from the stands, it sure didn't seem like he was running very hard. He looks like a guy on a team that knows he's gonna get stuffed every game. They can't pass so he's their only option. I think he's tired of it.

Too bad. Used to be a good dude.

Used to be a great player. If he'd have landed somewhere where they could have used him in a Darren Sprolles type role, He could have done some great things.

I don't know why that even matters. I don't think anyone believes we are spending too much. This does not feel like a team loaded with overpriced veterans. If anything, our cap number is high because we had cap space, so we chose to absorb some big contracts in 2013.

spending team =/= cap number.

and it means a lot cause if you are shelling out the cash, you better be putting a good ****ing product on the field.

you want a team spending over 120 million to yield a losing record? Yea that's a great investment of players and coaches. Bottomline is when you spend a lot you should be competing with good teams and definitely should be pounding the piss out of teams like Jax.

I don't think anyone has illusions that we are spending money to be a super bowl contender right away. We spent money, but we are focused on building a good young foundation and we aren't cap strapping future contracts.

Many of those contracts are front loaded and given how many guys we cut, a good chunk of that money is dead money for piolis players. If it felt like we were blindly and desperately throwing money at players, I'd feel differently.

Curious to see how he does from here on out. I rewatched the first half, and holy shot were we good at closing off all the gaps and blocks and shedding. When you have defensive linemen consistently getting clean shots in a closed gap, not much the runner can do.

I imagine he can't bowl people over like he used to. But yesterday's game, it's hard to imagine many rbs succeeding. I ink some of that has to do with our defense, but even more has to do with how bad gabbert was.

O.city 09-09-2013 09:16 AM

Was brought up in another thread, so I'll bring it up here. I think Fisher played pretty well, and that pick is done so I'm moved on.

But look how good this DL played under Sutton. Now imagine lining up Sheldon Richardson along side Poe and Devito/Jackson.

Or Catapano, Sheldon, and Poe in subsets? Or Bailey in sub sets?

Oh well.

have you not been paying attention to how many contracts where restructured into bonus money and just paid in front as a lump sum?

Tyson Jackson, Flowers, Succup, then all the guys we cut that we still have to pay money, plus the current guys on the cap, plus all the other bonuses

probably close to 140-150 million in spending

Branden Albert is on a cap heavy one year deal that drops either entirely in 2014 or gets signed into a far more reasonable cap figure. I think we'll over 11M is being paid out in dead money to the roster gutting, namely Winston, cassel, and breaston who alone account for 10m plus. Jackson took a pay cut and is still overpaid. His contract drops dramatically next year even if we keep him.

So I don't get what point you're trying to make. This team spent a shitload of money to gut the roster of dead weight. That means we pay a lot today to gie us long term roster flexibility and to cut out the crap. I don't know why doing that obligates us to win more games today. Our year 1 cap space means nothing and in no way obligates our team to be winning championships in year 1.

Funny that Hali caught that INT I wasn't expecting him to catch it although they practiced their dlineman catching passes.

Mother****erJones 09-09-2013 10:05 AM

We should get bailey back this week if he's ready after the passing of his father
