3 grand for a watch?

Holy shit.

Can't even imagine. But, then I'm just a lowly truck driver.

IIRC, Movado makes some nice watches in your price range.

My in-laws are an importer for luxury watches and purses. As an outside observer, I thought it was ridiculous at first--actually, I still think it's ridiculous--but one thing I found interesting is the nature of depreciation.

Basically, if you get the starter luxury watch or a commonplace brand (like Citizen or Gucci or Coach), the price is going to sink like a rock. If you spend more, however, and get the right model and brand (like Patek Phillipe or an Hermes bag), the price really will go up and sometimes at a surprising rate. My wife got this bag (as a gift) three years ago that she can sell for double the price now.

You want to buy the bag or watch that bored, rich people are going to have a hard time finding on ebay basically.

Interesting.

I've been a collector of watches for some 30 years now. Goofy, I guess, but they always appealed to me…

I have been wearing a Citizen "Blue Angels" Eco-drive since they came out with them about 14 years ago. Still keeps time as well today as it did back then. I had a running thing with Seiko back in the 70s when they used a perpetual timing mechanism (like Rolex) LONG before they switched over to Quartz. Good watches as well.

I've owned Rolex and Omega - and in my opinion, highly overpriced.

I recommend the Citizen. They, too, can get a tad pricey - but nowhere near in the ROlex and Omega price range.

Don't quite understand why people still buy watches anymore. Especially guys. You arent chicks. You dont need jewelry.

The only reason functionally is if you're a frequent business traveler as a backup if your cell phone goes dead.

Non-functionally, it's pretty much like you said: jewelry for men. I've been living abroad for 4 years now. Seems like the people least into watches are us, Americans. See a lot of Asians and Europeans sporting nice watches. Part of their culture I guess.

I love my Citizen Nighthawk.

FTW. I got my Citizen there for a huge discount compared to local stores.

If it were me right now - I'd say go with a stainless Coach, they seem to be what you're describing OTWP.

I find them very nice for that price range or even cheaper. I may actually pic the pictured one up.

I love my watch. I don't wear it everyday however.

Just having a watch is ridiculously redundant...

I have to have a watch due to my responsibility toward deadlines & my being mobile all day. I bought a cheap Neff watch (see below) -- It was $15.

I did have a nicer Marc Jacobs that was damaged while working in it.

i've owned an auto - they're nice - I sold it and got close to what I paid, IIRC.

It was pretty - but odd colors - copper colored w/ leather, sorta odd.

I agree on the Tag's, I bought this one 5 or 6 years ago and am still very happy.

http://www.amazon.com/TAG-Heuer-Mens...tag+heuer+link

I've had a rolex and just didn't wear it much, I wear the Tag every day. The rolex screams pretentious to me.

Like Phobia said, you can find a new tag for under a grand. EBAY is selling used ones for $1500 so the prices might have gone up over the last few years.
