Early potential landing spots for Flowers: Atlanta & Washington. Hearing the Pioli connection is in play with Falcons.

Couldn't even get a 5th or 6th round pick for him??

The other team would have had to take over Flowers' remaining contract. So the other team would be paying his $7.5M the next 2 years.

That would give this place some burst.

Kc will be completely useless to use in madden this year now

So people are mad cause we just cut our 3rd best corner back from last season? Flowers was great, but he was terrible last year and doesn't fit in the system. Cutting him and extending Houston soon >>>> Keeping him and hoping to re-sign Houston next year.

http://overthecap.com/chiefs-release-brandon-flowers/

The Kansas City Chiefs have released CB Brandon Flowers from his five year, $48.75 million contract extension that he signed in 2011. Flowers had been scheduled to earn a $250,000 workout bonus, $2 million upon reporting to training camp, and another $5.25 million in base salary for the season. In 2015 he was scheduled to earn the same workout bonus and $6.25 million in base salary. It is possible he earned his 2014 workout bonus but the rest of the money will all disappear from the books. All told the $48.75 million extension turned into a two year deal worth $24 million.

The release leaves the Chiefs with $3 million in dead money in 2014 and another $4 million in dead money in 2015. This dead money comes from the remaining prorations of a $10 million signing bonus paid in 2011 and another $4 million bonus paid just last year for salary cap relief.

The move will create $7.5 million ($7.25 million if the workout was earned) in cap space for Kansas City in 2014 and another $7.5 million in 2015. This is much needed room for the Chiefs who will likely need the space to extend QB Alex Smith and pass rusher Justin Houston, both in the final seasons of their contracts.

These guys -including Flowers- couldn't stop shit in the 2nd half of that Indy playoff game. When you're part of a secondary that blew a 28 point lead in one half, you have no job security. I'm sure somebody will pick him up, but he won't make $7 million. It must suck to lose your job on Friday the 13th....

If cutting Flowers turns into Houston getting a new contract.....then it's well worth it.

He played plenty of man well before Sutton. I keep seeing people say that he doesn't fit a press scheme and that's a load of shit.

He was a cap casualty yes, but that doesn't mean there's anything behind him.

Again....your hope is riding on a pair of UDFA's. I don't have that much faith.

We routinely played with 3 safeties on the field last year, more so than we did with 4 corners from what I recall.

Worked out well, didn't it?

If this gets Houston his deal, then it was worth it.

Jerm 06-13-2014 01:35 PM

I'd love to think the $$$ being saved is going towards a new contract for Houston but I got a bad feeling it's going to be used to push a new deal for Smith over the line.

And that's all fine and dandy....but they should've addressed the position better than they did if they knew this move was coming (which they did KNOW it was coming....everyone freaking knew this was coming)
