Although I agree with your assessment. I believe its spot on. There are many, probably the vast majority who have reached that same conclusion. I still don't want anyone banned based on being an irritating asshole.
Hootie and GoChiefs are prime examples of good posters who rub people the wrong way. Hootie left they mods no choice to ban. Since he has been back, he still gets in peoples faces, calls out BS, spouts off BS opinions. But, he's doing it within the rules. Same with GoChiefs. There was a time when I think I was the only one who saw the potential in GoChiefs to be a valued poster. Part of it was his fault with his in your face posts. But, like Hootie, he changed from always using the in your face posts.
Those are just two of the former "assholes" that have turned it around and IMHO bring a lot of value to the board. Which is why I'm always against banning unless the poster leaves you no choice.

BRC nails it... the rules for banishment need to be very clear and evenly enforced... if Darth got banned for a "filter violation" so what, so was I, didnt understand that crap one bit.
"Filter violation? all I did was say one who sucks the penis etc"
But it was what it was... my thinking at the time is and was "hey, this guy already decided to **** me up, why give him another opportunity to exercise his huge internet peen at my expense".
So I came back with a corrected behavior.
Long story short, these temp bans are nothing more than bullshit and postcount fodder... in fact, these diabolical mods prolly ban people JUST to drum up outrage posts about said banning.
CANT YOU SEE... MAN.
