So I love Rembrandt and van Eyck, but the paintings that they did that are available here aren't anythign I love. I'm choosing -- as I now see so many others did -- a nice seashore painting by Monet.

It's dominating the competition, but I think that is far less the skill of the artist than the simple fact that here in the modern world, that is an entirely appropriate (if slightly boring), very nice piece of work.

Nah, see my reply above. He's not likely even top 10 for me. It's just a nicer piece that fits well in any living room, more than any extraordinary talent he has.

I love Rembrandt, but an old crone staring down at me all the time? err....

Going strictly by the paintings offered, I chose this one.

I probably would've went with Van Gogh, but the one shown wasn't all that appealing.

My wife is a retired art teacher. So we have prints from many of those artists in the poll in our home. Our bedroom has a Monet and Van Gogh print. At work I have Thomas Hart Benton, George Caleb Bingham, Richard Estes, Picasso, Magritte, Edward Hopper and Norman Rockwell's "The Kansas City Spirit."

I wonder at the choice for Van Gogh. He has many much, much better paintings to choose from and is my favorite on the list. The Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam is a must visit. The Rijksmuseum is an all day affair to see it all, they sit basically next door to each other.

I was there many many years ago and I agree, it has always remained one of my top 3 in the world. A great one for sure!

Probably take any of his shit over Pollock, though.

I cant for the life of me understand how what Pollock did is considered art or talent in any way and there's actually people out there that try to put meaning behind his work. It's ****ing paint splatter people.

The 2019 versions of Pollock have turned into vomiting paint onto a canvas, stripping down naked and climbing a ladder to drop paint eggs out of their vagina in the middle of town sqaure, laying down naked next to a canvas and shooting paint out of their ass. Slap the words "Abstract Expressionism" on it and after they die it might be worth millions.
