Out of curiosity, is it legitimate to not vote for a guy for the Hall of Fame if he's a jerk?

In that case, I can see an argument for it. If a guy is jerk in the locker room, he's got less value to the team. (I see Terrell Owens over there glaring at me.) Or if a guy is a jerk in a way that damages the sport, he's not a good ambassador for football. (I see john elway drunkenly glaring at me.) But I think it's valid to withhold your Hall of Fame vote if a guy's off-field behavior tarnishes the sport.

For MVP I think it's a little different. A guy can still be MVP even if he's a jerk. But I don't know why I view them so differently. Maybe it's because the Hall of Fame is more big-picture in nature, whereas MVP is a very tactical look at what happened on the field.

Pete Rose also deserves to be in the Hall of Fame with an asterisk.

I care about how a guy performs on the field, not off of it.

Lot's of assholes out there including LeBron but you can't take away how great they were/are on the field.

If they want to start awards for nicest guy or most liked, go for it.

Doesn't the Walter Payton NFL man of the year award kinda take care of this?

I always kind of chuckle when they describe this as "the highest honor bestowed by the NFL".

Um, nope. It's a nice sentiment though.

QB was drafted late in the 1st round and was #2 on the depth chart behind a Hall of Famer for three years. Goes on to start and become the league's best passer for multiple seasons in a pass-favorable league. Wins a title, nearly has the NFC's first undefeated season in the Super Bowl era in addition to typical double-digit win seasons through most of a decade.

You can't really talk about the 2010s of NFL play in a historical context without mentioning Rodgers' stint in Green Bay and his statistical marks mean he's a Hall of Famer regardless of how big of a douchebag one might think he is.

Aaron should be hoping someone else is voted MVP. It seems to be a jinx that prevents you from winning the Super Bowl.

I don't understand how Martin Luther King Jr. Isn't in the Hall of Fame. Sure, his NFL career is limited. In fact, it's zero.

But he was such a stand up guy that did so much for the country. How could he not even get a nomination.

Sheeish.

I'd put him in over Eddie George.

No.

On the field is where players should be judged.

Otherwise, it leaves up too many room for bogus interpretation by hack writers.

It's a worthless award that only goes to QB's. That makes it trash.
It should go to who had the best season and did something special. Kupp may get 1,900 yards. That's worthy of the award.

ThyKingdomCome15 01-05-2022 04:09 PM

I don't care how they vote if they don't vote for Mahomes.
