Ohtani is such a good dude so I can’t hate on him for this. I hate that he went to the dodgers. But one thing that’s real real bad for the dude is the angels are such a toxic franchise. It’s despicable the way they didn’t shut him down as a pitcher. Pretty much his entire time there they ran him into the ground.

His usage was so unsustainable. Maybe with a contender they put him on way more of a pitch count.

LMAO this is amazing.

In an effort to enable the Dodgers to continue spending around stars Ohtani, Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman, Ohtani agreed to defer all but $2 million of his annual salary — $68 million of his $70 million per year — until after the completion of the contract. The deferred money is to be paid out without interest from 2034 to 2043.

Baseball's problem is that the regular season games are boring, mainly because there are 162 of them. I don't care about baseball until the playoffs. Shorter season in football helps create more urgency & entertainment in the schedule.

This should break the baseball structure. In no way should this be legal. I'm a huge baseball fan but it really needs to go to the NFL model of revenue sharing.

That is incredibly stupid on his part.

For anyone wondering if MLB will challenge or cancel Ohtani's contract: The answer is unequivocally no. There is a specific article in the collective-bargaining agreement that addresses this. Surprised Passan could pull his head out of Scott Boras's ass long enough to post this.

Meh. Ewing Kauffman did the same thing. He gave players stock in Marion Labs.

Are you sure about that?

This is why baseball is dying... no hard salary cap and big market teams can buy championships and every few years a small market team makes it interesting...

I always thought the Chiefs should have signed Tyreek to 2 million a year, and after he retired he could make 30 million a year as the janitor or a consultant.

Hard salary cap, coupled with an equally hard salary floor. Owners can't be cheap or simply buy all good players. Parity increases, smaller revenue teams have a better shot and playing relevant games later into the season, potentially more eyes on the games translating to better ad revenue.
