ya, what's with this talk of drafting gm's, coaches, and position coaches? position coaches would be especially ridiculous, I couldn't name more than ten

Rain Man 05-06-2009 03:15 PM

17 more picks and my guy is still out there.

Rain Man 05-06-2009 03:18 PM

16 more. My guy's still out there.

Is it Chiefs=Good's turn to pick yet? (Heh-heh.)

We are doing a coach draft, which I have the pleasure of running, after this initial draft

another surprise with Bowe over the guys I previously mentioned, good pick though and (considering the board) shouldn't really surprise me that much...

Are you going with position coaches, too? I was assuming just Head, Offensive Coordinator, and Defensive Coordinator. I'm fine with whatever, though.

bdeg 05-06-2009 03:20 PM

i'm excited to see Haley turn him into what he's capable of. Cassel will help too, we'll see. who had you mentioned? (oh i see, we'll agree to disagree)

i just searched and discovered the coaches draft actually is legit, my bad. are we really doing position coaches, too? gms? or just head coaches?
ya hc, oc, dc sounds reasonable but your call

It all depends on if wikipedia and all the team sites have the positional coaches, the list of those (if I do them) will be 32 for each while the head coach list will probably list (although they could be used for positional guys) well over 32 with guys like Jon Gruden or Jim Fassel

I had mentioned Vincent Jackson, Antonio Bryant, and Marques Colston...

We will definetly do head coach, OC, and DC and might do positional coaches and maybe even GM...

On that note, if anyone wants to move up or down throughout this draft or the rookie drafts let me know. I'll listen to all calls, Tom Brady is a professional and won't get upset and demand a trade if I get a call about him.

Rain Man 05-06-2009 04:12 PM

I'll definitely be interested in draft day trades, but want to see the next few rounds of the veteran draft first.

bdeg 05-06-2009 04:24 PM

what purpose would a drafted gm serve? if i'm doing the drafting and decision making, what impact does he have on the team?

Chiefs=Champions 05-06-2009 04:57 PM

Oh you did, my bad.. Any ways it ABOUT FN TIME! So i select WR Steve Smith and wonder how the heck he is still on the board (perhaps explaining my impatience?)

I think the main reason he is still here is because of his age and looks like I'm not the only one going for the very young path on the team...plus some people might not like his attitude so either of those is probably the reason

I was looking at him, John Abraham, Darrelle Revis, and two other guys not yet selected with my last pick. I begrudgingly decided to hold off on Smith and Abraham due to age, but hoped they'd last the next cycle.

I've still got two guys on my list, though, and only 15 more picks to wait.

I think that would only be surprising depending on how many 3-4 teams we are going to have..considering that if there was a vast majority of 4-3 teams than MLB is more important to the team while the 3-4 OLB will be more important

I guess I tend to think of rushing linebackers being a more impactful position in the modern game, though I nod to the legends of the great middle linebackers. And of course there are more OLB positions if some teams run a 4-3.

I realize too that we know of at least one case (Abraham) of getting DEs that they're hoping to line up as rush linebackers, too.

Is this just a draft thing or some long-term deal... I'm in if it's just a one-time draft deal. Unless someone wants to take over after I draft the team.

It's a long-term thing, but it's really low-key after the first year. This is the heavy lifting year where we:

- draft veterans
- draft coaches
- draft rookies

There won't be any work to do once the season starts, and then next year it'll just be a matter of rookie drafts and free agent drafts.

But you're welcome to just draft for them and then we can find someone else to take the team permanently.

Awesome pick, but not one of my two guys I'm holding out for. Ha!

Once you pick, then you PM the next person to let them know they're up.

I do find humor in the fact that this team has Cassell at QB.

If I guess it will you tell me??

Also great pick in Woodley, I thought about taking him and using him as a DE (kina like how the Redskins are using Orakpo) and I was hoping maybe he would fall...o well...great pick

bdeg 05-06-2009 08:58 PM

pm it to me--actually don't care that much, feel free to put it here

small clue: not as young as the guys i've drafted

and thanks. i would've taken woodley in the last round but i figured he wouldn't be taken by the dancers

Thanks away from computer

Still not sure bout Edwards but potential is there

rockio42 05-07-2009 02:09 PM

If Cromartie bounces back from a terrible year, its a great pick

Edwards seems a little early with guys some good veterens like Warner, Garrard, and even a young guy like Quinn

I don't think I'd take either of those over Edwards... TO, Evans, Lynch... nice li'l offense in the making there and for the purpose of this draft, he's younger than Warner... should be better than Garrard. Pretty solid pick, considering what is left.
