I don't think it's Jackson's fault, he didn't ask the Chiefs to pick him, I have gone out of my way to not trash him.

He was a 10-20 type of prospect that got overdrafted, not his fault that's our FO's fault.

I guess the real hindsight here is if they wanted to do a reach pick to make us eat crow, Orakpo was the guy.

The thing I'm really curious to see is whether it's Jackson or Magee who ultimately ends up the nosetackle. Because I've suspected that's the direction they were going to eventually go the second they picked Magee.

We disagree about Sanchez, and that's fine, but if there's a legit threat that we might select him, you don't think that puts us in a much stronger, more valuable draft position?

Not really. No one wanted to trade up in this past draft. Detroit put out feelers for anyone that wanted to trade into the #1 spot and no one did. Everyone tried to trade out of the top 5 and no team wanted to trade up that high.

the fact is, with the absurd rookie contracts no one wants a top 5 pick anymore, so it's a rush to want to trade out of it now. And with this draft not having 3-4 real superstars it'll be another year of that.

And I think the truth is if you had given most people here choices of Tyson Jackson or, most of those reach arguments would have gone out the window I think even people that didn't particulary like Orakpo would have gone with him and that goes for several others.

Right. But again, Vernon Gholston killed him. Three years ago Orakpo is a top 5 pick, but because of Gholston he fell a bit.

Overall, we don't really disagree, except for the value that Sanchez represented in the draft.

I'm one of the guys saying at the time that we should draft and trade him. Sanchez that is. Because while I didn't (and still don't) value him personally, I knew he was valued by others.

(Which is ironically I think something that could also be said about jackson - it was said at the time that we weren't the only team looking at him. So whether I valued him in the top-5 or not, which I didn't, some folks obviously did...)

They may have even tried to do it, and never got the right deal. Impossible to know.

Either way, I would have done everything I possibly could not to pick at 3.

The Raji bandwagon would have been stronger.

Gholston wasn't my reasoning for being down on him, I don't like to do player comparisons like that I think it's unfair to both players.

I was down on Orakpo because of the long history of highly drafted Mack Brown Texas players that have absolutely fizzled.

Sanchez was overhyped and that much has been proven. Even if you take him it's not like he's Eli where he has the value to be traded to someone else. No one else was going to buy into that.

He may end up being a piece of trash, but nothing has been proven, yet. And, you'll think this is crazy, but I'd still rather have him than Cassel.

That too. BUT, the constant Gholston comparisons (is he just a workout warrior) most certainly hurt him. Obviously he's not gholston but when you get compared to a guy that has busted like Gholston has, it's not going to benefit you.

I still think what I said about Crabtree and the WR class holds true after the season.

Ignoring how he's played, the truth is I wouldn't have touched Orakpo with a 10-foot pole. I thought going into the draft he had bust written all over him. I don't think I thought much of Maybin either.

Crabs would have been ok at #3 in hindsight too.

I didn't like Raji either going into it, as I recall. Was concerned he'd turn into Chester McGlockton.

I really, really, really didn't like this draft class.

I absolutely hated Maybin even more than Orakpo, Maybin produced for 1 year, is 20 years old and is extremely light.

My argument of why I didn't like Crabtree 3 was there wasn't enough separating him from the other WR's, Hakeem Nicks went in the late 20's and as players there is very little separating them to justify that difference in picks and contracts.

You do realize that when you discuss the draft you're going to be wrong quite often if you hit 50% you're doing an awesome job.

Which is why it's a little nuts to get so caught up in certain players.

Orakpo had about every indicator of an elite pass rusher (and specifically a 3-4 rushbacker type) because of his speed and ability in coverage that Wash is utilizing by playing him at lb on 1st and 2nd down, not to mention his ability to be a elite pass rusher...and was just written off here because....wait for it..."he was from Texas"

When you say you'd rather take it up the ass than draft a player, it's more than just a 50/50 miss. You are not only saying that your "expertise" tells you this guy is a chump, but you're also telling us what your degree of certainty is for that. If you just said "I'd rather take a couple of other guys" that's one thing. Saying it the way he said it tells us how certain he was that this guy was a sure bust. Which in turn tells you why some people are working in football evaluating talent and others are sitting in their mom's basement.

I think it's just popular on the internet to bash Big 12 players on defense, so the bandwagon effect comes into play. Someone who reads all over the internet about one topic can fall victim to that.

In my profession this is common too. Without any real expertise you come to think X because you read X on the internet. EVERYONE (on the internet) knows X, X is obvious... but really you are only getting the opinion of people who post on the internet and those who are very loud about it get more attention than they ought to get. So you end up with a skewed opinion - again, lacking anything else to rely on.

Big12 defensive players generally suck. Mainly because the big12 is a pussy conference with too many spread offenses and not enough big dick I formation "let's find out who the men are" football.
