Anyone see what happened to Berkman?

DJ's left nut 04-18-2012 08:11 PM

Aggravated his calf injury; listed as day to day.

I'd expect a DL stint, personally. Carpenter's presently hitting well and we can afford to lose Berkman for a bit to ensure he's completely healthy.

On a side note, Tyler Greene sucks at absolutely everything.

O.city 04-18-2012 08:12 PM

DJ, what can you tell me about Wong? I know you mentioned him the other night on here.

Yeah probably DL for Berkman. Might as well for now.

O.city 04-18-2012 08:14 PM

Well, just busted that one open.

Good atbat from Jaime.

veist 04-18-2012 08:16 PM

Jaime fouled off what 6 pitches there? Nice work helping his own cause.

Wong reminds me a little of Jose Vidro. Gets the 'pro's pro' label quite a bit. Sound, compact, level swing with good gap power. Looks like he should be a plus defender (good range, not elite; same with his arm - makes up for it with quick hands).

At his best he should be a guy that gets talked about as a GG contender, but probably won't win one. Maybe a .310-.320 with 15 HRs and maybe 20 stolen bases.

Think of him as being a slightly more consistent version of Jon Jay as a hitter with a Tommy Herr style glove. Or hell, just call him Tommy Herr with more power.

He should be a fast riser; I'd expect him to man the pivot by the end of the 2014 season at the latest; perhaps even by mid 2013 if Descalso's bat doesn't come around and Wong hits his way into the picture in AAA.

O.city 04-18-2012 09:47 PM

That sounds good.

We need to do something up the middle. Furcal ain't getting any younger, and while I like Descalso, I think he's ultimately a utility guy.

O.city 04-18-2012 09:48 PM

On a positive note, **** this team can hit.

Chief Henry 04-18-2012 10:55 PM

This years team is head and shoulders better than it was a year ago at this time. The intire lineup can hit, the bullpen is an actual strength and the starting pitching has been very good.

Waino gets the ball tomorrow and will shut down the reds again and then the Pirates and cubs. This team could have a 7 - 10 game lead in the NL Central in another week.

Another win.

Lynn threw the ball well. Again.

Although some tough news, Berkmann had to go onto the DL. Hopefully its just a 15 dayer.

We need Craig to get healthy soon.

Hard to believe that Wainwright has been tagged with three of our four losses. I'm sure he'll come around, though.

It would also be nice if he could get a little run support.

Small sample size but his peripherals look fine, either way you have to assume that that HR rate is unsustainable because its not like he's Ryan Franklin throwing BP fastballs to these guys.

The facts are most pitchers take 19 months to get back to normal. He still has 6 months to go.

You need to ease up on Holliday. He's not going anywhere. We are wed together, for better or worse.

Holliday is what he is, he will end up hitting a non-clutch .300/20/102.

Has to do with his lack of clutch gene (been watching too much ESPN) and the fact they signed him instead of Albert. The reality is he's not that bad, and the Cardinals signed him to show Albert they were committed to building a good club.

Scott Pilgrim 04-22-2012 11:44 AM

Beltran hit in to a double play with the bases loaded he is so not clutch get rid of him

veist 04-22-2012 11:48 AM

I might be open to the argument that certain people do respond negatively to pressure (e.g. Roberto Luongo would probably make a great case study in this) but the belief that certain players are "good in the clutch" is just silly to me because it requires the belief that they need stress to be at their best essentially.

Scott Pilgrim 04-22-2012 12:14 PM

before i go back to my Holliday sarcasm I would like to point out how great Furcal has been

Scott Pilgrim 04-22-2012 12:20 PM

We should trade Beltran before he kills any value he has, so not clutch

O.city 04-22-2012 12:26 PM

Freese with a base hit, scores two.

Really hope he can stay healthy for the long haul.

He's playing for a new contract. Imagine if he had pitched well in the postseason, he'd be the most sought after pitcher on the market.

While he is pitching for a new contract, he was pretty damn good the second half of last year too. No one noticed because they still hated him from when he was playing through injury the year before.

Yes, and his lackluster postseason. He's overall been good, though.

LMAO Angels fans are anxious. Some are already hating the move. Most of them seem to be putting his lack of HR's off as a slump, but they generally seem to be very worried that his career is starting to decline. I'm loving it. I hope he continues to systematically decline throughout the remainder of the next 10 years. Isn't he close to his prior longest HR drought?

I hope he stays healthy as a horse throughout his career...and falls off the !@#$ing map.

It's not going to happen, but a nice run of .285 seasons with 20-25 HRs and an .820 OPS would be pretty damn sweet.

He's not going to forget how to hit just because he's in LA. We may have gotten his best years but Pujols will still bring it.

In case you didn't know, the way they structured the contract, Pujols is making less this year than he did last year with the Cardinals.

IMO, Pujols shot his wad in the multi homer game in the WS. He's done.

BigRedChief 04-23-2012 09:06 PM

Thats a BS loss. Those cubs suck. they have no business winning that ball game. I think they took it for granted that they didn't have to being their "A" games to win.

Well, I will enjoy any slump this guy goes on from hear on out.

The umps suck.

Tyler Greene sucks worse. He may be the least reliable infielder I've ever seen, up to and including Ryan Theriot. And if it's an important AB you can bet your ass he's going to strike out hacking.

He serves absolutely no purpose on this roster.

kcpasco 04-24-2012 10:00 PM

On a positive note, Waino looked good and Holliday came through in a clutch situation.

Yeah, what's the deal with Waino still not getting a single run in run support? Should even out just like there's no way that HR rate he had in his first couple starts was sustainable but annoying nonetheless.
