Geno is held to a different standard. He's a rookie. just him getting in a game and completing 6 out of 7 passes! Nice! Real nice!

By the Geno standard, Tyler Bray had an excellent game too. He went 3 for 7, but keep in mind he had one throwaway and two dropped passes.

But...but....PAYTON IS BACK! ITZ DIFFRENTZ NOW!

Bray looks ****ing good out there. Doesn't cave under pressure, rocket for an arm...needs to get some of his timing and footwork issues cleared up.

I was really impressed with his fundamentals. His footwork is slow, but he had a few really nice rollouts. It was awesome to see him throw an accurate pass rolling left, even if Kelce dropped it.

Since the Smith supporters have clearly recognized him as God's son after his Saints performance, what will they say after he plays a legit defense next week? Most likely "it's a work in progress" or "too early to judge."

I am not without some optimism, but Capn. Shortstuff is going to get his shit pushed in against elite defenses. At least with Bray, as rough as it may be, there is a definite future there if he will continue to develop his work ethic and mature.

See, here's the problem. No one is saying, our father, who art Smith, but he's not Cassel II either, and I guess that's the problem with the haters around here.

New World Order 08-10-2013 11:36 AM

Bowe is not going to sniff the ball with Smith at qb.

The Bad Guy 08-10-2013 11:37 AM

Anyone who says Smith is just a mild upgrade over Cassel isn't qualified to analyze an electronic football game from the 80s.

Maybe they'll take it at face value, which is what I try to do since I don't have this emotional investment that apparently you and Claynus do in seeing Smith fail so you can be proven right. If he sucks against SF, say he sucks and that's it.

This is no different though than the Smith crybabies coming on here saying that "he checked down" and tried to piss on the parade of scoring a touchdown.

Some have gotten to the point that when we score touchdowns (as rare of an occurrence as you'll find watching a Chiefs game over the last 2 years) people now want to dictate how it's done in order to be satisfied.

It's comical.

Here's my feeling, Smith is a quality starting QB in the NFL. There aren't enough to go around, and several teams don't have one. The Chiefs could've found themselves in that situation, but aren't, it's why I'm pleased with the trade. I disagree about Geno. That's all. I don't think Alex is top ten or anything, but I didn't see the acquirable top ten QB this off season.

You know, if it weren't for Bray, you'd probably be right in your assertion. I understand your desire to see KC field a competitive team, but unlike fans such as Marcellus, I can't just forget about what came before, just because we cleaned house. That would make me kind of an idiot.
I've said many times before that Smith can win some regular season match ups. If all I cared about was the Chiefs remaking the 90's or early 2000's I guess that would be okay. But it's not. That's not acceptable.
Does that mean I'm going to stop being a fan? No. But it sure as **** doesn't mean I'm going to bury my head in the sand. It's a new season with a new regime that will more than likely be better than the last one. You're excited; I get it. And honestly, being ANYTHING other than a league joke is a step up at this point, I will concede that.
But that alone, again, is not enough. I simply will not back off and drink the Kool-Aid until we have addressed the QB position in a manner fitting a franchise that seeks to compete for Championships on a yearly basis.

That's where I'm at.

Nobody with much honesty wants to admit it, but perception of this years draft at the position were skewed heavily because of last years QB goldmine. Some of the guys from this years draft will turn out better than expected, while others will live up to their "billing". It's really nothing new.
Alex can help make us respectable in the league again, but that's about as far as I'm willing to bet on him. I guess for now, it's enough.

This is one of the dumbest conclusions that one could have possibly come to regarding the leagues view of rookie QBs.
Its so stupid I can't even imagine how Your dumbass could actually believe it.

The rookie records are repeatedly being broken, and teams are finding out that passing on even a midget might mean missing out on potential franchise quarterback.

And you actually think this is a reason that teams would NOT want to not draft a quarterback.

Can you step back for a sec and see why everyone thinks you are

You're right, I want competitive football. What could the Chiefs have done last off-season? It's not like they could have manufactured a franchise QB in the draft when there wasn't one.

I can't hold it against Alex Smith because the powers that be didn't think there was someone they wanted to hand the keys to the franchise to.

I'm happy we have a coaching staff now that can maximize talent and are far removed from that circus that was the Pioli/Haley/Romeo era.

I'm willing to give it a chance before I shit all over it.

The Bad Guy 08-10-2013 12:10 PM

This crop of QBs was screwed because they aren't nearly as talented. It had nothing to do with comparing them to Luck, Griffin or Wilson.

That's an absurd statement.

Geno Smith just isn't nearly as good as people on this board proclaimed him to be.

One thing people don't seem to appreciate is the morale of the players. You would rather draft a QB to develop and suck for years instead of being respectable now. But the players don't want to hear about next year or the next. They want to be competitive and win now. What happens if KC drafts a Geno Smith... goes 3-13 this season.. ? Think the players.. the key players you all love.. think they won't lose respect and interest in giving their all? Think they won't be looking for the exit ASAP? Teams need to try their best to win every year... they need to appease the fans and the players. Alex will bring far more respectability this season than would some rookie or trash FA vet. Steep price? Sure... but he is under a team friendly contract.. and KC can still develop current or future QBs while they crawl up out of the NFL basement.

The mind bending piece of logic that many of YOU dont get is that Dorsey and Reid believe that Alex Smith is a better QB than any of the QB's in the draft will end up being.

Its that simple.

Its laughable you would draft a guy you dont like and HOPE he turns out well which is basically the exact scenario you are pimping.

Realize because YOU think Geno has potential to be franchise doesn't mean that thought is shared by the NFL and draft day pretty much proved that.

He could turn into everything you thought. Its just that there aren't many who feel the way you do. I did about half way through the college season, but I saw him struggle, I saw hum throw mini tantrums. I fell out of love with him. The NFL did too. There's nothing wrong with thinking Geno will be awesome, it's just Alex vs. Geno and seemingly rooting for Geno to be better than Alex obviously isn't gonna fly on a Chiefs fan board.

Its that simple.

Its laughable you would draft a guy you dont like and HOPE he turns out well which is basically the exact scenario you are pimping.

Realize because YOU think Geno has potential to be franchise doesn't mean that thought is shared by the NFL and draft day pretty much proved that.

Yea I guess top of 2nd round and going in to camp to compete right away with an NFL QB to take his job means that nobody thinks Geno can be a franchise QB.

That being said, this is the same bullshit that Cassel apologists said, and I said when the trade was announced it was bad news and the dude sucked. I guess average guys and GM's aren't so different in the fact that they can be right OR wrong.

He had the same ****ing game as Alex Smith. Great call "Alex Crew" your guy is the bestest!

Geno was about taking a CHANCE to be great. Alex Smith is another 'just good enough' guy.

Just good enough isnt good enough any more. Now hurry up and die.

LOL at "great", or he could be an absolute bust, look like an absolute douchebag, which he did pre-draft, he could get passed up by every team in the NFL, showing where his true value was at and then look absolutely lost out on the field, which he did yesterday. Geno ain't nothing but another epic bust at QB.

You mad because Geno looked lost in the sauce? :D:D:D

Garbage QB all the way, but feel free to stay on the rapidly dissolving bandwagon for as long as you would like to.

LOL at competing with "Mark Sanchez." Franchise QB's don't "compete" with a guy who fumbled walking straight into his own offensive lineman's ass. If Geno doesn't beat out Sanchez, its a further indictment of how lacking he is.

And how does that differ from Alex? You think your Boy Alex Smith didn't suck major ****ing ass at 1.1 for 6 years then had a pedestrian year and all the sudden he's Joe Montana Jesus?? Please. Did he not LAST ****ing year get passed on for a 4th rounder by every NFL team?

ANY QB they brought in would be competing with Butt fumble.
He is DONE in NY.
Even he knows it.
He wouldnt be there next season if they drafted Bray in the 7th.

hometeam 08-10-2013 01:23 PM

My point is every indictment made against Geno can be made against Alex Smith. So why the **** is everyone celebrating his demise after 1 series of pre-season game time in which the guy did the same exact thing as our guy?

You know we played Alex Smith his first year and beat his team 41-0 with Damon ****ing Huard.

After he was a dropped pass from the SB?
Ive heard this before but it sounds like BS speculation.
Im trying to research it but cant find shit.
Would love to see some solid proof that this was true?

Its so stupid I can't even imagine how Your dumbass could actually believe it.

The rookie records are repeatedly being broken, and teams are finding out that passing on even a midget might mean missing out on potential franchise quarterback.

And you actually think this is a reason that teams would NOT want to not draft a quarterback.

Can you step back for a sec and see why everyone thinks you are
Such
A ****ing
Idiot

You're a process-truster. I get that. You're also a known homer, willing to eat each and every shit-sandwich this franchise feeds you. Why should I buy and enjoy the poop you enjoy eating, dumbass?

He drove down the field and scored?
I musta missed it.

IowaChiefs83 08-10-2013 01:28 PM

I meant to vote Alex, but fat fingers and a smartphone don't go well together.

I feel Alex mainly behind the talent around him and on defense compared to the Jets. He'll get a good lead on Geno this year.

You sat there at your key board for this long after realizing what a moron your statement confirmed you to be and you thought this would redeem you?

Dont ever change.

Eh, I can't claim nor want to claim stats. I didn't do it with Sanchize, I won't do it with Smith.

1. He didn't do what Alex Smith did.

2. He's a Jet QB, and I really don't care about him, and I celebrate his demise so maybe people will drop it.

LMAO @ at all the votes post-1st preseason game.

Lotta balls and foresight in this group...

Why do I even acknowledge your dumb ass? I believe it was the Sanchez-hater crowd that ran that phrase in to the ground. I usually just call him Snatchz.

He executed what was asked of him and protected the ball. Being the greatest dinker-dunk in the West is not exactly what I call reaching for greatness though.

Again, why does it have to either be suckiest suck ever, or somewhere between Manning and Brady? Smith is solid. Sorry that's boring. We're going from crappiest in the league to middle of the pack. Sorry near best in the NFL wasn't available.
