So far that is Johnson, Howard, Hall and Watkins, very active on the waiver wire. Means more cuts coming.

DenverChief 09-01-2013 11:35 AM

So with the Jones trade and the (supposed) release of Wylie, Brown, Powe, Diles, Brock and Mcdougald that puts us at 46.

Add Howard and Hall our roster is at 48 - 5 spots to fill - who will it be

Quote:

Jaye Howard's rookie season wasn't so positive. He was drafted in the fourth round out of Florida as a pass rushing defensive tackle and came with an endorsement from Dan Quinn. He made the team but only cracked the active roster on two occasions, failing to have any impact in either game. Even after Jason Jones was lost for the year and the door opened for another pass rushing DT, Howard remained a non-factor. Not a great sign.

Yet from the two games he appeared in (Jets and Wk17 Rams), one can see why the Hawks were willing to eat a roster spot so he could basically redshirt his rookie year. Howard truly explodes off the snap and looks every bit as quick as his 4.82 40 time suggests. He also has long arms and a strong upper body to pair with some nice pass rush moves. All signs point to Howard having considerable potential as an interior pass rusher.

So why couldn't Howard have an impact as a conditional piece? Well, I think it boils down to over-eagerness. He would over extend off the line on almost every snap he played. This made him easy for offensive linemen to latch onto, mostly negating his quickness and upper body strength. Howard tallied 5.5 sacks as a Senior at Florida under Dan Quinn. Having Quinn back as his defensive coordinator might just be the ticket to getting Howard rolling. Tebow help opposing quarterbacks if he can put it together.

From his college tape, we can assume that Howard remains a liability against the run. Poor lower body strength, pad level, and effort against the run undermines any starting 3-tech potential he has. That's not a deal breaker in my opinion. Maybe he can improve in this respect, but if he doesn't, an explosive conditional pass rusher still holds significant value in the modern age of passing offenses. Either way, one step at a time - Howard must become the dangerous pass rusher he could be.

Yes, I was impressed with how he did in Pre-Season. He covers well, SEEMS street that. to be in place on his assignments, tackles well, does great in run support, and should be good on special teams.

Damn Jayhawk.

Oh well, if a guy can play, he can play!

Kinda how I feel about Daniel.

But yeah, I was glad to see BM make the cuts. He's played well. Too bad the other Jayhawk didn't make it. I just don't think the guy is a FB. He played tailback his first year and then OLB

bleacher report, so take with a grain of sand..or salt or whatever

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1...op-roster-cuts

LB James-Michael Johnson

Quote:

Typically, a player who starts eight games in his rookie season is a part of his team’s long-term plans, but that was not the case for James-Michael Johnson and the Cleveland Browns.

Johnson was a victim of a schematic change for the Browns defense that did not suit his game well. While he played both strongside and weakside linebacker in the Browns’ 4-3 defense last season, he fell behind D’Qwell Jackson, Craig Robertson, LJ Fort and Tank Carder on the team’s inside linebacker depth chart as they switched to a 3-4 scheme under new defensive coordinator Ray Horton.

He may not be a great fit to play 3-4 inside linebacker, but Johnson is a well-rounded linebacker who could add depth to a team that runs a 4-3 base defense. That puts the New York Giants on this list again.

Johnson could push starting outside linebackers Keith Rivers and Spencer Paysinger for a starting job. At the least, he could provide solid depth behind the starting outside linebackers, while having the versatility to kick inside to middle linebacker if necessary and also contribute on special teams.

Johnson is likely to be claimed off waivers by one 4-3 team or another, but he would be a good fit to the second level of the Giants’ defense. if he makes it to their spot in the waiver order.

I think small white WR need to donate 15% of their annual salary to West Welker. He's pretty much the only reason they last in the league.

No. You have to fall in love with the RIGHT QB, or you end up drafting Brandon Weeden over Russell Wilson, and Alex Smith over Aaron Rodgers.

Tyler Bray, UDFA on a team with a proven qb. Made the team.

Tyler Wilson, drafted in the 4th round by a team with NO qbs....CUT......
