Oh, no doubt. Looking back, wished they had gotten Gus Malzahn. Then again, he may have bolted after 1 year. It's gonna take at least a couple years to make this program competitive again and more than likely at least 3-4.

Any word on why he walked away from a scholarship at Arizona to sit out a year and walk on at Kansas?

Don't go O-fer.

Fansy the Famous Bard 08-31-2015 04:22 PM

In all seriousness, i'd like to see some competitiveness from the team as a whole... Not just individual players. Under Weissass and Radio, you'd have a player here and there that were competitive... but the rest of the team seemed to run in slow motion. As if they were afraid to fail (or succeed for that matter).

I want to see kids playing football, not going through the motions.

Saul Good 08-31-2015 08:01 PM

In all honesty, this has got to be about the perfect time for a coach to lead a Snyderesque turnaround. You could look at every other coach in the conference save Gary Patterson and make a compelling argument that they won't be there beyond the 2016 season.

Reerun_KC 08-31-2015 08:04 PM

It was being discussed today on the radio that this actually seemed like a good time for a new staff to take over a team like KU.

I think what's going on at Baylor is going to blow up big. That school has simply sold their souls to the devil to win in both football and basketball and I think it's finally going to catch up with them.

What sucks for KU fans is that on Friday night Baylor will be starting a QB that was committed to the Hawks up until the day Turner Gill was fired. My point is that talent on Power 5 programs can swift very quickly and with the right staff in place Beaty could be in a great position to move his program to the middle of the pack sooner than later.

TCU is here to stay. The school and fans are shit but the coach is great. This must frustrate UT and OU to no end but that is not within Kansas' concern this year.

I want a win Saturday. And I want a comfortable win. KU is strong at RB, DE, and TE. The OL has come together better than the staff has originally predicted as has the interior defensive linemen.

I think KU wins 38-17.

From what I've heard this staff is focused on details and preparation unlike the past two head coaches. Could this be BS? Possibly... but at the onset of the season a fan typically gives the benefit of the doubt. As KU fans we want to see a professionally run game with few mistakes and missed assignments...even if that means the most talented players aren't on the field. This is the only way to build a program.

If you look back at the good KU teams 7-10 years ago you saw disciplined line play that rarely got called for holding, false starts, etc. That needs to happen. TG and Weis both ran teams that opted to put the "most talented player" on the field as opposed to insisting that those players follow their assignments to a "t". Those are the types of things I'll be looking for more on Saturday as opposed to the scoreboard.

Regardless it's great to be back and playing ball. For some reason this offseason has felt impossibly long.

The spread is 5. The game is at home. SDS has never beat a 1A team. Plus factoring in the point that this is Beaty's first game? I think they come in fast and get out to a lead.

Watch out for Steven Sims. From all accounts KU has a real steal with this kid.

Joshua Stanford brings good size and should be better skilled than anyone on the opposing team's roster.

The running backs are solid.

It will all come down to Montell. I'm willing to cut the kid a break because the past two seasons have been a trainwreck for his development. When Beaty came in he put plenty of pressure on MC and that will include this Saturday. Ryan Willis has a cannon for an arm and is by far the best thrower on the team. It won't take long for the true freshman to get on the field if things aren't working out for MC.

I feel KU has more options than originally thought. Either way it's going to be fun.

Will find out tomorrow if my son and I have tickets to the TCU @ OU game. Not an OU fan on the least. But everyone I fly is. Possibility that I might meet Jerome Bettis soon as another owner and him are best friends. Didn't know that until his HOF induction. And what sucks is I had to pass up the Canton trip as I was Already booked for another trip.

They went to Bettis private party and met him in person. Bettis moved through the crowd quickly to get to the person we flew up there. Cried when he hugged him. Had no idea they were that close.

Still pisses me off that j could of went.

I really don't have expectations in year 1. This sets the baseline. Ask me next season...

Wilson Was trying to make the team.... he worked out with the program in the spring and part of the summer, but never made it.

http://www2.kusports.com/news/2015/a...all-game-week/

Quote:

Despite an enormous amount of fuss made about a workout video posted to the Instagram account of KU student DeVonte Wilson, the Jayhawks do not have a new running back on the roster.

Wilson’s videos, which show him running through a series of impressive workouts that display his raw athleticism and strength, went viral Tuesday and caused confusion over his athletic status.

However, Beaty confirmed Wednesday that Wilson, who sources said explored the idea of walking on in the spring, is not a part of the KU program and there are no plans to add him to the roster.
Complete workout warrior, that couldn't play football for the life of him.

Lzen 09-01-2015 08:49 AM

Going to the season opener on Saturday. I don't expect much but hope to see improvement in the coaching. KU lost a several good players on that defense. Heck, I think I read the other day that they only have 4 starters (offense and defense) returning from last year. In a way that's good but we lost a lot of experience. Beaty is starting from the ground up.

Lol at KCnutbag for thinking that hoops isn't a sport that matters.

Because we have one of the smallest stadiums in the conference.

TCU used 99.4% of its capacity for all of the home games. Oklahoma, Kstate, and Baylor were the only ones higher.

Again, you have no clue. College football may be number 1 in ratings and money brought in, but college hoops is definitely second place. Also, you're not the first person to claim that KU fans only care about hoops. In the Mangino years, I posted pics of the filled stadium the first game of the season. Same thing early in Gill's and Weis' tenures. KU fans will support the football program but we won't support ineptitude.

You really are an innumerate idiot.

TCU's stadium holds 45k. Our season tickets are sold out. Individual tickets for our decent home games are pretty much sold out.

Our basketball teams played in a community college gym last year because our basketball stadium was being renovated (another thing that severely constrained capacity).

Oh hey look, here's us playing against weak ass sand aggie (who's still way better than ku) and our stadium is full.

Just going to the game. We usually tailgate but the guy I'm going with had some stomach issues and is in the middle of a two month alcohol free order from his doctor. I have done my fair share of 8 AM tailgating for an 11 am game though.

I have a wedding Saturday, a little upset that in going to miss our home opener.

Complete workout warrior, that couldn't play football for the life of him.

I don't know this kid, or if his videos are a facade of his real athletic ability but football really comes down to athleticism. Of any sport there is that I know if, it's the most important thing. If a kid can run a sub 4.5, is at least 5'9'' and has a 38+ vert...he could be on a roster somewhere.
