Glad to get our yearly boofing by the Astros out of the way. If both teams make the playoffs, we better hope we have home field.

Well the good news is we got swept by the Astros last year around this time. It went well after that

Eh, too premature to be saying that. We'll see what happens in an actual stadium in KC later this month when Cain, Hosmer, Escobar, Ventura, and Vargas aren't all hurt at the same time.

Al Bundy 07-01-2015 09:36 PM

That was a wet fart of a series for the starting pitching.

SPchief 07-01-2015 09:37 PM

Also 4.5 up on Minnesota going into a 4 game series. We can run and hide with the division with a sweep/3 of 4

tk13 07-01-2015 09:37 PM

They're definitely a good team. And the reality is we're the team being hunted now. Teams like that are going to want to gut us... and they just did.

It's weird though because I'm not that concerned about this series specifically. I was already worried about our starting pitching... I think that series showed why. We'll probably be alright at home but our staff isn't as good as last year, and they've gotten knocked around in hitter's parks.

Al Bundy 07-01-2015 09:37 PM

Band box stadiums... against a team that can mash is not a good recipe for the Royals shit starting pitching.

Disappointing for sure. Playing HOU, it's pretty obvious who had the better SP and offense. We need to sure up both if we want to be a factor in the post season. Now, let's sweep Minny and send those posers back to their rightful place.

Fly ball pitchers + band box parks = trouble.

Hell Duffy pitched a good game last night, in Kansas City that's a 1-0 game.

They gave up five runs per game in a little league circus stadium against a powerful lineup, therefore they are 100% shit? You don't see the flaw in that logic?

I don't even care about the pitching or even final lines. What bothers me the most is we just flat out got out played. That doesn't typically happen to us so its a bit discouraging. I'm of the thought that we were so hyped for Oakland that they had a letdown series. I think we will rock Minnesota.

Minute Maid is like some of those old historical parks. They used to be really short down the lines and forever away in center field. Polo Grounds was like 260 or 270 down the line and 450 feet to center field. Just the way it is.

Long road trip, last series before getting home, injuries, good opponent --- just a perfect storm. Disappointed our bullpen is the one that blinked tonight. Not sure that happened once last year.

jimidollar 07-01-2015 09:51 PM

I like the unique stadiums and dimensions the MLB offers. It's one of the thing I enjoy about baseball.

The train is a tribute to the old Union Train Station. Its actually pretty cool. You're right about Tal's Hill though, it's being removed after the season. Ive always felt it was dangerous. The shallow LF Crawford boxes get bailed out by the massive CF measurements. All in all its a very nice venue to watch a game.

Turf/grass, dead spots (Boston Garden), lighting differences, etc. Other sports have their unique characteristics as well, but baseball is certainly the most pronounced.

I'm ok with the character from park to park, but the hill in center field is stupid and borderline dangerous to a player.

Yea, I'm sure it's just part of baseballs tradition.

But doesn't MLB have final say on a stadiums outfield dimensions and unique quirks? Or can a city just do whatever it wants?

If I was an owner, Could I just build 250' down the lines if I wanted to just because?

Chiefs Pantalones 07-01-2015 09:57 PM

It's amazing what our record is considering our injuries, suspensions and our SP being pretty bad. Hopefully things won't come down to earth.

Love this club, but obviously the SP rotation needs an upgrade to take the next step. The good thing is Dayton Moore knows this.

There are MLB mandated minimums as far as fence distances, I'm almost positive.

srvy 07-01-2015 10:13 PM

Thats a solid ball club. Kicked our nuts pretty good. See ta in KC late July with a hopefully stabilized rotation.

let's play Jeopardy. I'll take thugs for $100, Alex. The answer is:

The team who's manager actually apologized for his pitcher's clearly thuggish behavior this past week

Our starting rotation is scary bad. Again, I'm absolutely amazed we are 13 games over .500 given what we have tossed out there the first 75 games of this season. If we can mend the SP Staff and get our lineup healthy and a bit more productive, we could win the Central by 10+ games. However, if we don't address the SP, staying atop the Central gonna be hard.

I don't know why everyone is bitching about the starting pitching so much. Considering the injuries they've gone through (every SP except Guthrie & Volquez has been on the DL this year), I think the staff has done a pretty nice job. Are they completely dominating? No. But they've done a nice job considering how much time 3 of their starters have spent on the DL.

And our offense could only muster 1 run in the first two games of this series (arguable against pretty OK pitching). But it's scary to think the names we have on offense can be shutdown so often by average and even slightly above average pitchers.

While I think we should/might make it into the playoffs, at this point I'm not sure we'd make it very far because of both sides of our game.

But hey, they're still awesome!

The starting rotation, minus Blanton and Pino's starts = 4.32 ERA. Last years starters minus Chen, Hendricks and Brooks starts = 3.397 ERA. Nearly a full point higher. That's what injuries do.

We need to address the SP issue with a trade.

If they do well enough we can start winning those games where we only score one run, and perhaps they'll allow for ties for those games we don't bother to plate a run (because we're facing a good pitcher).

So I agree, but I don't think we can afford to not address the lack of run production. I'd say we could cork the bats, but with the way the break these days we'd get caught sooner than later.
