Goddammit, we are wasting a brilliant performance by Yordano Ventura.

At least he's giving me hope that we'll have a true ace for the future...

GloryDayz 10-12-2015 12:47 PM

Scary part of their lineup now...

suzzer99 10-12-2015 12:47 PM

Are the Royals capable of hitting a breaking ball?

Brilliant minus the two moon shots

I'll forgive those - small park, and the second one was just an insanely good swing.

GloryDayz 10-12-2015 12:48 PM

By looking at the cuts they're taking, it looks like the Astros actually measured the 3rd base line and know how short it is.

Not putting Dyson in after Rios' walk yesterday, Zobrist's bunt, whatever the hell Cain was doing on that hanging slider, and then several of these at bats today.

People can say it's been like this for a while all they want, but I don't think that's true.... not to this level.

And that's not to say they can't win this game, of course, but it's a bit more annoying than "that's baseball" at this point.

Alex Rios is the Colin Cowherd of baseball players.

The correa home run was 5 inches inside off the plate... and was still hit out. It's not a bad pitch. That's a tip your capp'er.

carcosa 10-12-2015 12:52 PM

Uh-oh.

suzzer99 10-12-2015 12:52 PM

Kuechel would have gotten that call.

ChiTown 10-12-2015 12:52 PM

another 2-out walk. **** me, at some point, they are going to stick it up our ass

DJ's left nut 10-12-2015 12:53 PM

At best McCullers only makes it through 6 at this point. He took an inning too long to spot his fastball so his pitch count got away from him.

And man, the parade of mediocre relievers the Royals will get to face after McCullers comes out has got to get them salivating.

Ventura is doing an absolutely baller job today. If you can get this game to the bullpens tied, you have to see that as a huge HUGE victory.

Yep, still counts for a HR. I get the point, and I agreed. It's been a great start minus the 2 HR's.

suzzer99 10-12-2015 12:54 PM

Funny how the Astros don't go up there hacking at everything after our pitcher gives up a walk. Strange confusing strategy.

I agree. I haven't posted any of the chicken little stuff or bought into it either. I am just not expecting something good to happen like I have throughout the season and in the postseason last year. That might just be mental preparation though.

DJ's left nut 10-12-2015 12:55 PM

Phew - that's exactly that 2-1 pitch to Correa is the exact kind of pitch that would terrify me.

He hung that breaker over the outer third and Correa just missed it. That could've been an oppo dong really easily.

Must be nice to get big hits in big spots.

Why Not? 10-12-2015 12:57 PM

Yeah Rios should get AIDS, but Ventura got totally owned by Correa today

GloryDayz 10-12-2015 12:57 PM

Like this whole goofy part, that wall has a narrative all its own.

Old Dog 10-12-2015 12:57 PM

Not too certain what you would have had Rios do differently there.

DJ's left nut 10-12-2015 12:57 PM

And that's why you keep working them inside. The armside run that Ventura was getting all day today took that from a perfect strike on the black to a ball that carried right into the zone and got smoked opposite field.

I know it's the third time through the order and you have to give them different looks, but they were playing with fire there.

Then again, sometimes you just tip your cap to an incredibly talented hitter. Sure, the pitch got more plate than you'd like, but most guys still don't hit it that hard. Correa did an incredible job keeping his head down on that ball.

jimidollar 10-12-2015 12:57 PM

RIP Royals. Fun season though.

ChiTown 10-12-2015 12:58 PM

The Astros starting pitching has been the difference so far. We just can't get the critical out

Hootie 10-12-2015 12:58 PM

Words can't describe how gutless that pitch and pitch call were. Astros deserve this series ... I'm praying for luck but not seeing it. You can't get starting pitching you can't win

Do you think Ventura is going be any better next year or years to come ?

Or is he at what we are going get?

I still like the kid but don't trust him any more than I trust Chiefs.

Do they have other pitchers who can throw breaking balls outside the strike zone? If not we may be in good shape.

He tried a curve the pitch before and didn't get on top of it - it fluttered over the zone and he was lucky that Correa didn't park the damn thing.

If he could've thrown that pitch at the center of the plate, the run takes it into the RH batter's box and Correa swings over top of it.

Ventura's curve just never came around today. When it was sharp, it was low. When he found the release point, he didn't find the break. It was either a ball or a cripple pitch and very little in-between.

I don't see how you can have that much angst over the pitch selection itself with as good as Ventura's hard stuff has worked today.
