l told you guys when this happened that my buddy who is a Uber KU fan said the reason KU suspended Preston was that he couldn't produce paperwork that he owned the car. He didn't say he borrowed it, was loaned to him etc. he owned it.

Preston and every other college player needs to get a better story where the car came from before questions are asked.

i could care less is some alumni gave him a car. But, get your story straight from the start. And get someone to "find" the paperwork ASAP.

Ok. Help me out on the math here. Is it problematic it was bought in Florida and registered in TX? That doesn’t seem too damning from my perspective. Problem is he can’t prove who bought it right?

To me that’s better than some asshat dealership in Lawrence doing it.

Is it possible the car came from an agency or something unrelated to KU? I know that’s a pipe dream and all, but it’s not just universities giving kids shit.

Right. And that’s what he will always be known for but I’m telling you everything went to shit when he came out. Especially defensively. And I’m sitting there thinking to myself, how can this be? He doesn’t have any length that anyone is afraid of, and his hops are usually late but more importantly he was doing NOTHING. Obviously he was doing something because it would go to shit when he’d hit the bench. That’s why he got so many minutes.

It took me a long time to get there, but I had to accept we weren’t going to get anything out of the position (save some passes and putbacks) but that’s what we have to have because everything went to **** without him.

As for the game last night, anyone in Kansas who doesn't live in KC and doesn't have Cox can't get those Jayhawk Network games. I use a VPN on either my phone of my laptop. Thing is, I can Chromecast it from my laptop to my TV. But when I try to Chromecast from my phone to my TV, ESPN blocks it. WTH? Any ideas? I would rather cast from my phone because the quality is better.

I got lucky and it was on ESPN3. I'm in Oklahoma and was able to watch it through my Xbox one.

Stole this from a Phog poster

Excerpt from Jason King's new book: Beyond the Streak. Elijah had some serious motivation in his memorable Weatherwax game:

Elijah Johnson: “Leading into that game, I’d had some crazy experiences at Iowa State, stuff you couldn’t see on TV. Some of their fans lost their cool more than a couple of times. Our team knew about it and the coaches knew about it, but that was about it. “The year before, in 2012, when they beat us up there, they stormed the floor and hurt a referee. He was bleeding from his head. That same game, one of their fans spit in my face as I was running up the tunnel before the game. There was a guy in the stands that was trying so hard to get my attention. He didn’t get it, but he got the attention of the person next to me. I believe it was Merv Lindsay. Merv looked up and said something smart to him, and he started grabbing the rail and lunging at us—and then another guy spit toward us. I happened to look up just as that spit was coming down and it hit me. I turned around and lunged in his direction, but then I thought about what was happening, and I regained my composure.” Assistant coach Joe Dooley: “The spit hit him right in the face. I was right behind him when it happened, and I was amazed that he kept his poise. He was definitely pissed off, and I was scared he was going to run into the crowd. I remember thinking, ‘How could someone do something like that?’’’ Elijah Johnson: “I got to the locker room and lost my cool. I was the last one in the locker room and Tyshawn was already giving a speech. I walked right past him and Ty said something, but Merv was like, ‘Someone just spit in his face. Leave him alone. He’s mad right now. He’s real mad.’ Then we went out there and they beat us. They rushed the court and wouldn’t let us off, and then they hurt that referee. The KU people helped take him to the locker room. My blood boiled about that night for a whole year. I couldn’t wait to go back up there.”

I'm not saying something isn't likely to come of this at this point, but c'mon is there a more biased source than KK? He goes on a witch hunt for KU every chance he gets. Didn't he say last year that Self was covering up the Bragg incidents, and practically went on a smear campaign against Jackson and KU for the damage to private property charge.

Kind of gives a whole new perspective on why Elijah went off and scored 39 the next year at Ames. Not to mention his game-ending dunk that riled up a bunch of ISU fans.

I wait until the game is over and you can watch it on the ESPN rewatch without needing any type of subscription. I realize not being able to watch it live is a deal-breaker for most, but I don't have an issue with spoilers (its not like the outcome was ever in doubt anyway).

A home game to Arizona State? Another easy win.

KC_Connection 11-24-2017 07:51 PM

This could be the best defensive team they've had since Withey left. They are particularly good in that regard when Udoka is on the floor.

They are incapable of drawing fouls or getting to the basket offensively in the half court (other than Udoka), so Self is going to need them to keep shooting threes. The more threes they shoot this season, the better they will do.

Garrett is more valuable to this team than Newman or Svi if we dont decide to chuck 3s as offense. Either way he needs more minutes. He can definitely be a poor mans Josh Jackson at the 4 for this team if needed.

They won't be able to score effectively if they don't take 3s. Nobody on the team can really score in any other way other than Udoka (who good teams will either foul or double).

I think Garrett is already a better defender than Jackson was. Will be a very important piece all season.

That's nice and all, but KU is 332nd in the country in free throw rate this season for a reason. One game where an awful team allowed KU to destroy them in transition doesn't mean all that much.

Not really, though. Graham, Svi, and Vick have played tons of games with this school and have never been able to get to the line. Newman never drew fouls with Miss. State either. We know what these guys are and that's three point shooters (although *real small sample size alert* Graham has weirdly lost his shot since becoming a great passing PG).

If you're expecting any of them to suddenly develop that skill, you'll be disappointed. KU is going to have to take tons of threes to be an effective offense and there's nothing wrong with that.

TambaBerry 11-25-2017 11:11 AM

I think you're over thinking things. These players have never had the opportunity to take those kind of shots. We had Mason and Jackson last year doing that. I think we'll be fine

Thats why Garrett is so valuable to this club. He appears to be slithery and a good driver that picks up fouls. I absolutely love that kid. Love that his HS coach already actually taught him how to play basketball.

l watched the game yesterday. Garrett is a defensive wizard. He is still 4 games removed from guarding High School kids.

I have noticed that Svi is actually taking it inside more this year. Hopefully, he continues that throughout the season and not just against weak competition.

Excerpts from the new book, Beyond The Streak by Jason King

This is great stuff.

http://kubook.net/

Quote:

Even though he knew he’d be a top-three pick, Joel Embiid was hesitant to enter the 2014 NBA draft following his freshman season.

Norm Roberts: “Joel didn’t want to enter the draft. He sat in my office in tears. He kept saying, ‘I don’t want to go. I don’t want to go. Call my mom and dad and tell them I want to stay.’ Then it was like, ‘Joel, you’re going to be a top three pick. You could be the No. 1 pick.’

“Luc, his mentor, said, ‘Norm, how could this kid not go in the draft when he’s going to be a top-three pick? How am I going to go back to his country and tell them that I told him to wait? What if something happens with his back or his foot? How can Joel do that and let his country down?’ He said that, and Joel was sitting right there. We all got up and started walking out of my office, and Joel turned around and looked at me and said, ‘Coach, can I call Coach Self? I’m going to have to go. I’ve gotta go, Coach. I’ve gotta go.’ I said, ‘OK, big fella. OK.’”

With just two weeks remaining in conference play, Ben McLemore’s banked-in 3-pointer to force overtime against Iowa State in the Big 12 opener had been the biggest moment of KU’s 2012-13 campaign. When all was said and done, however, that overtime win in January didn’t prove to be the most memorable game of the season. It wasn’t even the most memorable game against Iowa State. That matchup occurred Feb. 25 in Ames, and one particular Jayhawk was motivated more than others.

I happened to look up just as that spit was coming down and it hit me. I turned around and lunged in his direction, but then I thought about what was happening, and I regained my composure.”

Assistant coach Joe Dooley: “The spit hit him right in the face. I was right behind him when it happened, and I was amazed that he kept his poise. He was definitely pissed off, and I was scared he was going to run into the crowd. I remember thinking, ‘How could someone do something like that?’’’

Elijah Johnson: “I got to the locker room and lost my cool.

As talented as Andrew Wiggins and Joel Embiid may have been, anyone on Kansas’ staff will say that, of all of KU’s one-and-done freshmen, Josh Jackson had the biggest impact on the Jayhawks’ program.

Josh Jackson: “I may have been a freshman, but I didn’t mind jumping on someone at practice if they weren’t working hard. I think I earned their respect pretty quickly. Sometimes, when guys are older, it can be kind of dangerous because you don’t know how they’re going to receive it. But when I was at practice and saw someone not giving the same effort as I was, I was on them. I didn’t care of it was Frank or Devonte’ or Udoka (Azubuike). Some days we would go back and forth and argue, but at the end of the day, we all remembered that we were on the same team and that we all had the same goal.”

Landen Lucas: “I haven’t seen a freshman with the mentality and mindset that he had. After a few months he was carrying himself like he’d been with us for three years. And the thing was, everyone was fine with it because everyone respected him.

“If we were doing extra running or people were late, a senior would usually step up and say something. But Josh would jump in and voice his opinion, as well. If we were having team meetings and there was something that needed to be said or things needed to be changed, he would state his opinion.”

Kurtis Townsend: “Josh was completely different than Wiggins. With Wiggs … I think one of his main goals was not to get hurt. His whole deal was, ‘Let me make sure I don’t get a serious injury that will keep me from being the No. 1 pick.’ Whereas with Josh … he was a guy that absolutely hated to lose. Even though he knew he was going to the NBA, he wasn’t looking that far ahead. While he was here he was focused on winning, and he attacked every game and every practice that way. His approach was really good.”

Bill Self: “Josh could not have handled a group of teammates better than he did, especially considering he knew he was: the alpha dog, the one that leads verbally, the one that leads by example. He realized, ‘I’m a great competitor, but these other guys around here ... they compete just as hard as I do.’ He’s a winner, and he respected the other guys because he knew they were winners, too.

“Another thing Josh realized after he got here was that No. 0 (Mason) was pretty strong-minded himself. I think Josh thought he’d come in here and say, ‘I’ll just make this my team.’ Well, you had some pretty strong-minded dudes that had done quite a bit. Josh was able to respect that and still impose his own will on things at the right time.”

Mr. Plow 11-28-2017 12:09 PM

I'm looking forward to that book.

Ceej 11-28-2017 05:10 PM

KU is just throttling Toledo. Graham is attacking, dishing and defending.

59-30 at halftime and Toledo has been hitting shots...

Graham with 23 pts at halftime.

Pablo 11-28-2017 07:53 PM

This offense is disgusting when it's going full throttle. Sure it's Toledo but they're looking like they're going to score 100 again.

We sure took alot against Oregon and missed. Would be nice to be able to win in many different ways. Getting De Sousa officially would be a massive help, and good news, James Sosinski is now practicing with the team per Self.

Sosinski is a 6'8'' Tight End on the KU football team. Last year he played JUCO at South Mountain Community College averaging 20ppg and 13rpg. Was recruiting by many D1 teams including Washington State. Could be some short term help if the Preston situation doesn't get sorted out.

We sure struggled to score against that super long Kentucky team.

Sounds like practice fodder. They need De Sousa for some depth.

Nobody quit anything. Wiggins just wasn't that good. And despite the contract, he still isn't.

They'll beat Syracuse. How is a zone defense supposed to beat this offense?

Probably is, but I keep thinking it would be fun to get a guy like Julius Peppers was at UNC. I was too young to pay attention to if he helped the team at all, but my ****ing god it was fun to watch him just end people. He was a man playing at a middleschool game. ROFL

De Sousa doesn't look like a done deal for this year.

-------------------------------------

KU basketball signee Silvio De Sousa, a 6-foot-9 senior forward from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., still has some work to do before he can be ruled eligible to play in second semester games for the Jayhawks.

De Sousa on Saturday will take a standardized test for a final time this semester and needs to improve his score, which will be matched with his performance in core courses to see if he’s eligible.

If not eligible to play in games, De Sousa might not enroll at KU until June.

That’s because if he arrives in December and can’t play in games, he would not be eligible to play in games until second semester of the 2018-19 season. If he stays at IMG or heads to junior college, he’d be eligible at the start of next season.

Hadn’t seen that. Thanks.

Wait, what?

Wiggins is 22 years old and through 4 seasons is averaging over 20 points a game in the NBA. That's not awful numbers, sir.

Isn't that from the KC Star? Yeah, they've never shown an agenda against KU  Did Laura Bauer write it?

You should read Jason King's new book. I read an excerpt that said Wiggins didn't want to get injured before the NBA and that affected his play. That's why Josh Jackson was so much better. Josh wanted to win, badly.

Wiggins isn't any diff in the pros tho, so I don't buy that explanation at all.

He is just an inefficient athletic freak who never had to learn to shoot or dribble (hence penetrate the lane), so he didn't.

PHOG 12-01-2017 07:58 PM

Screw Wiffins..

kcjayhawks5 12-01-2017 08:05 PM

Wiggins was a badass at KU. Some of you need you need to lighten up. The kid was great.

Stanford wasn't his fault, Bail kept letting Naadir Tharpe and Jamari Traylor (3-16!) shoot. In a 3-pt loss. It was incredible

BWillie 12-02-2017 04:06 PM

Time to beat the **** out of these Orange people. What kind of team has a mascot that is a walking fruit? I hope Gerry McNamara is at the game and someone kicks him in the nuts. ****er ruined my young life.

They better have Sosinski. There is absolute no reason to not have him for a game like this, before we hopefully get De Sousa in a few games. This is what you bring him in for, to be able to bang down low against a team with size.

Pretty much anybody could score 20 points a game too if they took enough shots.

I'd love to know who said that about Wiggins.

Dick Vitale needs to retire already

So is Preston done for the year or what?

There's no reason to think he's coming back. Never has been.

Svi and Vick playing nervous in another "big" game. Seen that before.

Mr. Plow 12-02-2017 05:25 PM

Syracuse is likely the only team I hate more than Kentucky.

TambaBerry 12-02-2017 05:26 PM

Our defense is the best part of this team

jimidollar 12-02-2017 05:47 PM

Strong start to the second half. KU up 20 now. TO Orange bastards.

jimidollar 12-02-2017 05:56 PM

TO KU only up 11 now.

jimidollar 12-02-2017 05:59 PM

Newman has not been good in this game.

jimidollar 12-02-2017 06:04 PM

KU up 54-42 at the under 12 break. Graham is on fire!

Chiefspants 12-02-2017 06:12 PM

Good stuff.
