I think Sammy is an ideal fit for Green Bay. They're probably not interested in trading all that much, but I'm sure they'd throw a mid-lower round pick, which is certainly better than nothing if you're the Chiefs.

The Chiefs have no cap space. You are right in that immediate moves need to be re-structures, extensions or cut/releases. I expect only minor 2nd/3rd wave free agent acquisitions. No cap, especially with no movement on Jones.

So create some cap space by cutting him.

It’s not all big fish free agents being picked up today. There’s a blend of talent going off the board.

There’s no reason to hold onto Watkins right now if they know they’re just going to cut him.

They had zero pass rush against us last season and we torched them for 68 points in two games; they need to figure out how to generate a pass rush to help their secondary, which is just maybe a little better than average. Not a top-10 group for certain. So try to move Pat/disrupt his timing. It worked for the Niners for about 50 minutes . . .

Nassib, like Collins, is an average pass rusher though.

They paid a nice chunk to two guys that aren’t going to make a huge impact on their pass rush while also taking a significant amount of snaps from their young guys (Hurst, Ferrell, Cosby).

For these moves, they should’ve just been very aggressive with Jones and pulled it off.

Okay, I'm not that up on either of those guys, so I'll take your word for it. However, are they better than whatever they had last season?

And Mayock was never getting Jones. Veach and Andy would never have traded Jones to the Raiders. Only Billy O'Brien is that stupid.

Sign a #1 WR.

Another one.

I want more touchdowns. I wish our defense wasn't so good last year so Jimmy G would have completed that deep pass in the 4th quarter so we could score again.

More excitement.

Yeah Vegas added a lot of “solid” talent today but nothing that I see moving the needle quite yet. QB is still a big problem too until proven otherwise.

As it stands this moment, Denver is the 2nd best team in the West and there’s a large gap between them and KC.

Huge one. Pretty clear that his poise is lacking too after some of the decisions he made in that playoff game.

They’re going to have to build a 49ers level team to carry him to a SB. Maybe better.

Pretty much. Kind of pushed all our chips in last year with Mathieu and Clark, but it was worth it. Still going to have one heck of a team this year, but we have to get out of this cap hell going forward. At least Berry comes off of the books next year. 8 million this year. :banghead:

Watkins is the key.

His release or a trade would free up $14 million, but $7 million in dead money would be created. An extension could help the cap and keep a major weapon around.

LDT, Reiter, Sorenson, Colquitt all potential cut candidates. Clark re-structure potentially in play. I’m skeptical of a Jones trade. I think he plays on the tag.

RealSNR 03-17-2020 09:48 PM

Since the trades don't take effect until that deadline on Wednesday, does that mean we have to be under the cap before we can complete any trades? In other words, is our only choice for freeing up cap space through restructure or cutting?

Yes. That is why the tag designations precede free agency. The tag amount is applied to your cap immediately upon designation. Jones’ $16+ million dollar cap number was in effect since yesterday.

They can dump Erving and restructure Clark and be under the cap.

VAGOMO 4 LIFE! 03-17-2020 10:04 PM

Erving will save you 3.25 mil

OKchiefs 03-17-2020 10:08 PM

I thought Erving was already dumped?

Doesn’t become official until tomorrow

With McCoy leaving Carolina, I wonder if Matt Rhule wants to make a splash and fill a need with arguably the best defensive tackle in the game in a trade with the Chiefs?

Panthers have over $25 million in cap space. Bridgewater for Cam is a push salary wise, pending a trade of Newton.

Panthers receive Chris Jones + Chiefs 2020 1st (#32) = 590 points trade value chart

Chiefs receive Panthers 2020 1st (#7) + 2020 3rd (#69) = 1745 points trade value chart

Net trade value chart points = 1155 points or the equivalent of the 13th pick overall.

Maybe Okafor.

Oh. So really, not much is going to happen with the Chiefs. More the likely.

Like, I know we're not signing anybody. I was just looking for some cut or trade. Something to stir shit up around here.

staylor26 03-17-2020 10:22 PM

Panthers are tanking for Lawrence. I don’t see them making a move like that this early in the process. Sounds good in theory though.

There just aren’t a lot of potential suitors for Jones.

The best bet is absolutely the Dolphins. They are the only team left with the draft capital and cap space to make this trade.

I posted a scenario earlier where someone said we trade them Jones and #32 for their first #18 and both of their seconds

I’d rather them just give us 26 and a 3rd.

BossChief 03-17-2020 10:29 PM

Ways to save money by keeping everyone:

Save 10m by extending Sammy
Save 6+m by extending Fisher
Save 6m by extending Kelce
Can restructure Frank Clark to save 12m.

Ways to save money through cuts:

Sammy Watkins 14m
LDT 5m
Colquit 2m
Sorensen 3.75m
Reiter 3.5m

VAGOMO 4 LIFE! 03-17-2020 10:31 PM

We won’t extend Kelce until Kittle signs his new deal. I’m fine with extending Fisher I just don’t want to hear CP talk shit about him again.

BossChief 03-17-2020 10:40 PM

Fisher took Bosa out of the game in the 4th quarter when we made our run. He was pretty good all year. Possibly top 10 and he moves well and that’s a huge bonus in this system.

He’s a solid LT that we could probably add 2 years to his deal and keep his number reasonable.

I just quoted trade chart numbers to approximate value dummy.

My position on Jones has always been to extend him long term. Try following along. Many have been speculating as to possible suitors and Jones value, so I put forward a logical scenario.

IowaHawkeyeChief 03-18-2020 08:49 AM

Bills just went all in on Stephon Diggs, Vikes raped them...

VAGOMO 4 LIFE! 03-18-2020 08:57 AM

Danny Shelton just went to the Lions. I know some people thought Jones could possibly got there. Well not anymore

Any trade in which the Chiefs give up Jones and their #1 just to move up- is not realistic. That would be the worst trade in Chiefs history. That was my point. Others have posted these scenarios as well. Sorry if you think that is dumb pointing out what a raping that would be. Horrible! :doh!: But thanks for posting how great the numbers look on paper. :thumb: I am sure the Trade Value looked great too when the Texans traded away Hopkins. Same with the Bills / Diggs trade. Common sense seems to have gone out the window with these teams.

He’s a NT. They don’t even play the same position/role.

pugsnotdrugs19 03-18-2020 09:32 AM

All the mid tier DTs flying off but no Pennel is strange. He must be coming back.

pugsnotdrugs19 03-18-2020 09:34 AM

Slow WR market = teams are lowballing FAs knowing the draft is loaded at WR

Happened with safeties a few years back

I’d sell Watkins and his agent on that to agree to an extension

My guess is that we have an agreement in place. We just need to create the cap room.
