In my opinion, even after the offense gets cruising again you pay him. He's more than earned it and what he does is extremely important to the Chiefs success. I know a kicker is not a sexy or valuable position but in this case it is. Like most NFL dynasties Chiefs tend to win a lot of close games, especially in the playoffs, so Butker is worth the money he will be paid. It's not like the Chiefs have to break the bank to pay the guy. Look at the last Bills playoff game we had, you think Butler misses that clutch FG kick like the Bills kicker did?

Now if the Chiefs were a team rebuilding and not a constant SB favorite/contender I think then you let him go. But this isn't the case with our situation.

A 400 post thread dedicated to a punter used to be a sign of how bad things really were, now it’s a sign of just how good we actually have it.

For sure.

We are all blessed to be Chief fans. As we know it wasn't always like this and I'm sure it won't be once Mahomes/Reid leave. So we have to enjoy this era as much as we can and not take it for granted.

GO KC!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Their shows are usually about 45 minutes, which is about what OWG would be if you just took the content and stripped out all the grab-assery.

They're also the ones who looked at team DVOA in Tom Brady's championship seasons with the Pats, and found it wasn't correlated much at all with the Patriot's top regular season DVOA over those 17 years. I thought that was really interesting.

I tried to listen last night to their mock draft. I made it to #4 and then dozed off. Insomniacs could get behind these guys. Boring. I just don't see how people actually have that much time to listen.

Personally I rarely watch TV. I listen to pods at work, in transit and at the gym for 1-1.5 hrs a day.

I walk 2 miles to the gym and back and listen while I'm at the gym. That's a lot of content to fill.

Of course I could do audio books or more high-brow podcasts to expand my mind. But the mind always seems to prefer Chiefs pablum.

The AHPKC guys haven't (and usually don't) do mock drafts. I think you're thinking of the KC Lab.

Which is normally pretty good.
Problem is when you have to come up with something new to say every day or every other day it's all been covered. We have like 2 weeks to go and not much is going to change from today 'till draft day.

I get a little bored when they get into their draft prospect interviews. Same questions similar answers.

Ready for holding
The Chiefs are leaning on Araiza to not only handle the punting duties that everyone expects, but he's also going to serve as the holder for Harrison Butker's field goal attempts. Rehkow was familiar with that responsibility and was more recently tested, but Dave Toub's willingness to let Araiza be the lone punter at this point bodes well for his work as a holder, too

We’ll see

This kid is just ANOTHER cheat code.

Cheat code quality:

Owner
GM
HC
QB
TE
DT
punter
Kicker
DBs
LBs

WR could very well end up one of our best positions.

This offense should be HISTORIC and when they need to punt, opposing offenses are going to need to drive the whole field because of PUNT GOD.

This Chiefs team should go down as a top 5 team OF ALL TIME.

Cheers and enjoy the ride.

The Jet sweeps, draw plays, screens and misdirection plays are all going to be lethal because of how much elite speed the offense has.

I love the positive attitude! How can you NOT have one about this team after back to back SB wins especially with our SB win last year which our offense was playing pretty much the whole season with "one arm tied behind their back"?

But BOSS as you know every season is "brand new" and "it is all on paper right now" until we get the pads on especially with Kingsley. Will Brown pick up the playbook quicker than Juju? This will determine more of Brown's success than outrunning the coverage because D's won't let him get behind them hardly at all therefore Brown must pick up Pat's eyes in what Pat sees hopefully sooner than later. Will Matt have Romo brick hands in clutch moments? These are legit questions that cannot be answered "in shells and gym shorts" at this point.

Yeah he has a leg, but punt distance isn't the only thing that says if your a good punter or not. You can boom punts all day, but if they're going into the endzone, then it doesn't really matter and you lost a good chunk of that punt.

I believe that punting yards are recorded minus any yards the receiving team gains on the return a.k.a. where the ball is placed when they take possession. So, a punt into the end zone would effectively take 20 yards off the punt length stat.

TinyEvel 10-25-2024 11:44 AM

Matt is #1 in Avg punt distance (52.3). and net yards (45.7)

He has only punted 16 times which puts him at #30 in the league

8 have gone inside the 20 yard line, which puts him in 6th place in terms of percentage of punts inside the 20 (50%)

3 have gone into the end zone (touchbacks) which is actually pretty high in absolute numbers as well as percentage of punts. Currently, most touchbacks per punter is 4.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/stats/playe...Yards/dir/desc

chiefzilla1501 10-25-2024 11:47 AM

He started the season great but also a little rocky. Lots of kicks that barreled into the end zone, with a few miraculous saves by the coverage unit. It seems like he’s gotten that under way better control of late which is huge if he can get that control on top of the distance.

Also no major issues holding for butker which I was nervous about.

So all in all it’s working out nicely

dannybcaitlyn 10-25-2024 12:02 PM

How long do we have him on the cheap?

RealSNR 10-25-2024 12:04 PM

But how well he ever learn how to hold on place kicks???

I mean, only like 100% of rookie punters ever figure out how to hold in their first offseason!!!!

Okay, 99.9%. The Bengals rookie punter apparently can’t hold

I’d feel a bit better if the reason why he hasn’t kicked so much wasn’t because of turnovers and field goals.

This is the kind of high-level inside info that keeps me paying the ChiefsPlanet $99 annual membership fee. You just can't get stuff like this anywhere else but here.

Remember when dorekshun thought there was an offseason punter battle? Or before that we should draft one?

He's always wrong. He will also do about 15 mock drafts which only give the Chiefs 1 starter too

What if he's a damn good starter? MMM worth it? Butkers replacement and two Darrian Kennards, one Sanders Commings and one Skyy Moore?
