I had pictured Crossbones as being taller and bulkier than Frank Grillo, but I have to say that looks pretty damn good.

Tilda Swinton in Talks to Join Benedict Cumberbatch in Marvel's 'Doctor Strange'

Doctor Strange, being directed by Scott Derrickson.

Strange is Marvel’s supernatural hero, a formerly cocky surgeon who loses the use of his hands, and while on a last ditch attempt to heal himself, discovers magic.

Strange’s mentor is a Tibetan mystic known as the Ancient One, who is training pupils to be the next sorcerer supreme. In the comics, the character has been a male, and Marvel Studios initially was searching for a male actor.

But the studio rethought the role and has now made it female. If a deal makes, Swinton will play the Ancient One.

Strange has a release date of Nov. 4, 2016. The movie is due to begin shooting November in the U.K. Kevin Feige is producing.

Joining a Marvel movie is the latest move for Swinton, whose film résumé reveals an actress that refuses to be pigeonholed in any way.

The actress will be seen with Amy Schumer in Judd Apatow’s new comedy, Trainwreck, and has appeared in the last two Wes Anderson movies, The Grand Budapest Hotel and Moonrise Kingdom. In between, she gave a show stopping performance as a brutally poised but unbalanced villainess in Snowpiercer, Joon-ho Bong’s sci-fi movie that starred Chris Evans.

She won an Oscar for best supporting actress for 2007’s Michael Clayton and played the angel Gabriel in the 2005 adaptation of DC Entertainment’s comic Constantine.

That is an odd casting. Though Swinton is fairly androgynous.

Aries Walker 05-31-2015 04:50 PM

I wouldn't be terribly surprised if she played him as a male. She's certainly able to do so.

Jamie 05-31-2015 05:03 PM

I doubt they'd do that, this is their way of sidestepping the wise old Asian stereotype without making the character another white male.

Aries Walker 05-31-2015 06:19 PM

In that arena, they're kind of damned if they do, damned if they don't. They're already getting accusations of whitewashing.

Production on director Tim Miller's Deadpool may be over, but that doesn't mean we're done hearing news about the project. Take, for example, this recent update that confirms that it's been actor Andre Tricoteux who has been performing the role of the mutant Colossus on the set of the movie these past couple months.

This information has spread wide largely thanks to Gina Carano, who will be playing the adrenaline-controlling mutant Angel Dust in Deadpool. Responding to a Twitter message from Tricoteux about wrapping up his own time on the comic book movie, Carano wrote:

Of course, there is now a big question regarding exactly how much of Andre Tricoteux we will actually be seeing in the finished cut of Deadpool. Set photos circulated showing Tricoteux on the set of the movie wearing a motion capture suit for his portrayal of the character, but whether or not his actual likeness will be lent to the hero is unclear at this point. It's entirely likely - if not probable - that the actor's presence in the movie will largely be taken over by a more notable name down the line (similar to the way Sean Gunn played Rocket on the set of Guardians of the Galaxy, while Bradley Cooper provided the voice).

This means that the movie is potentially still looking to find the actor who is going to give Colossus a voice - though, as X-Men fans know, it will actually be a recasting. Actor Daniel Cudmore played the metal covered-mutant in X2: X-Men United, X-Men: The Last Stand, and X-Men: Days of Future Past, though it was revealed a few months ago that he would not be returning to the part.

Deadpool has been filming up in Vancouver, Canada for the last few months, but production on the movie ended just this past week. We know the film has a fantastic cast lined up in Ryan Reynolds (as Deadpool), T.J. Miller (as Weasel), Morena Baccarin (as Vanessa), Ed Skrein (as Ajax) and Gina Carano, and it's been confirmed that the blockbuster will be an origin story, but there haven't been many official details provided beyond that. That being said, Reynolds has done a fantastic job recently keeping fans updated and clued in to what's going on with the movie, so hopefully that won't end now that production is over. At the very least we should expect something fun to go down during San Diego Comic-Con in July.

I think Deadpool is going to be a pretty fun ride of a movie. Ryan Reynolds is perfect for the role. I didn't realize that Deadpool and Colossus had any relationship/connection in the comics, though. Hopefully they bring him back/reboot his story to make him the badass he is; the X-Men movies did him no favors at all (getting ripped in half by two Sentinels? Really? Colossus should have wiped the floor with those androids), and the guy that played him certainly looked the part but was a bump on a log otherwise. Curious to see where they take him...

They don't. I'm pretty sure Fox picks supporting characters by throwing darts at pictures on a bulletin board.

Doctor Strange: Chiwetel Ejiofor Will Reportedly Play Baron Mordo - IGN
By Jim Vejvoda

Villain said to be an "amalgamation" of characters.

Oscar nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor will reportedly play the villain in Marvel's Doctor Strange movie.

Word of the 12 Years a Slave and Children of Men actor's involvement with Doctor Strange surfaced months ago, and now Deadline claims that Ejiofor will play Baron Mordo in the film.

"Although he’s an enemy in the comics, don’t look for him to be necessarily a completely villainous character," claims Deadline. "Rather, he’s an amalgamation of characters culled from Doctor Strange‘s mythology."

In the Marvel Comics, Baron Mordo is a sorcerer and fellow apprentice of the Ancient One (who may be played by Tilda Swinton in the movie) who betrays him and Doctor Strange.

Benedict Cumberbatch plays the title role in the Scott Derrickson-directed movie, which opens November 4, 2016.

Ejiofor's screen credits include Serenity, Children of Men, 2012, Redbelt, and American Gangster. He'll next be seen in a pair of sci-fi films, Z for Zachariah and Ridley Scott's The Martian.
