No, it's definitely noticeable. Just remember the muscle is still under the fat.

And now the downward spiral into narcissism begins....

I never thought I'd say this, but I'm so ****ing looking forward to it. I'm earning it, just like you did.

I was up doing a bunch of crazy lecturing in front of my class (acting out a hunting scene from Lord of the Flies for those that care), and I got lightheaded and a little short of breath. Probably more in my head than anything, but I'm considering eating something at lunch. Especially because I'm planning to work out this afternoon. This is my fourth fast in an alternate day fasting routine.

You're only supposed to do it twice a week, man, and only until dinner.

Don't hurt yourself lol

It's not stupid. You just shouldn't go overboard with it.

How about breakfast to breakfast? When I did my fast on monday I had a shake in the morning then didn't eat until breakfast the next day. I liked it better that way since I was asleep when I had been the longest without food, when you do dinner to dinner you are awake when you've went the longest.

Silock 02-25-2010 05:04 PM

Doesn't really matter as long as you don't 1) go *too* long without food, and 2) don't overcompensate for the lack of calories by pigging out on the meal that breaks the fast.

I was only doing it until dinner, and I did it last Thursday, Saturday, Tuesday, and then was doing it today. I ended up eating a turkey sandwich that was provided during our lunchtime tutoring.

Like I said, I was doing it as an experiment to see how it affected me. My experiment is satisfied. I'll be doing fasting some (because I actually did enjoy the experiment), but I think twice a week will probably be my max. Every other day is a little too much for me with the amount of working out I'm doing. On the plus side, I'm a lean mother****er right now.

I haven't weighed in here yet. I have been a somewhat avid lifter/exerciser off and on for years now.

I have been following this thread purely looking for some motivation even though I have been steady at it for the last year or so. Need some umph.

Great stories, great advice.

Flopnuts, keep at it you are making gains.

I started tracking my caloric intake this week and it is an eye opener.

I drink a lot of beer which is one of the reasons I work out. I am not fat I am 5'11" 195lbs and fairly built but have a set of love handles I want to lose.

I am on a quest to build a very efficient beer drinking machine. The more calories I can burn the more beer I can drink. (though since following this thread I am drinking less)

Anyway I went to the gym Monday and benched 300 and then did 10 reps of 225 afterward so I got totally motivated. (wasn't expecting that)

Started tracking calories in ( I believe in Silock's theory of calories in vs calories burned regardless of calories) and am trying to average less than 2,000 per day for the week.

That's going to take some work considering on weekends I play music in a band and have access to much free beer!

Anyway keep it going and keep me motivated.

Working on the fasting thing as well since reading Newphins experiences.

On the plus side I work for a company that makes protein drinks for Muscle Milk and EAS so I have an unlimited supply of protein at my disposal. I wish I could ship you guys several cases of product.

Better than I ever did when I was lifting before. Those machines may be basic, but they make me very comfortable regarding lifting.

On a side note, I weighed today (I know, bad Mr. Flopnuts) and I am now lighter than I've been in well over 15 years. All of the weight gain from August to January is gone and it's all downhill from here, baby!!! :thumb:

Congrats man. Keep it up!

I appreciate the kind words guys. Welcome to the club Marcellus, it's good to see you here. We have a couple of resident pros, but I'm a firm believer that you can never have access to too much information. I hope you post actively here.

Just replaced the battery in my chest strap for my heart rate monitor and it still works like a champ. 2 years later.

So at my size I worry about my heart. Not as much as I used too, but I workout hard. And I'm still a pretty large guy. I've got my h/r monitor on and it's just floating between 52-55 bpm. That seems so low to me so I'm wondering if it's not working because I feel fine.

For an adult, a normal resting heart rate ranges from 60 to 100 beats per minute (bpm). For a well-trained athlete, a normal resting heart rate may be as low as 40 to 60 bpm. In healthy adults, a lower heart rate at rest generally implies more efficient heart function and better cardiovascular fitness.
That made my day. I remember it being in the 90's the day they tested me when I weighed 450lbs.

That's crazy! Good for you man!

My resting heart rate is in the 40-52 range. When I used to donate plasma, I'd have to get rechecked at times because it would be 38 or 39. No clue why mine is so low, I haven't done much of any cardio in 4 years. I did get my results from my blood test back and I'm aids free....I mean everythings normal. The doctor sounded a little surprised considering I am in the obese range and haven't seriously worked out in 4 years.
