Haven't, I'd rather enjoy the big screen.
Based on the previews, looks like this will be another episode where some "main" characters bite the dust. I will say, this last episode showed what a really messed up person the gov is much better than the whole Woodbury(sp?) arc.

Sure-Oz 11-25-2013 09:44 AM

Mid season finale looks like goodness. Glad they tied the gov back in with back story

In the comics... (BIG COMIC SPOILERS AHEAD)

Then, as I previously predicted for this show (and still think will happen)...

Spoiler!

They should forget the main group and follow the Gov.

He is a lot more interesting. These last 2 episodes have been awesome.

This was another really good episode. I really think all heck is going to break loose in the next one.

I want this line to be said by the gov to Rick:
"Don't bring a knife to a tank fight."

When the Gov shows up with the M60, Carol is going to roll in with a M1 Abrahms.

I love this show.
I know you can pick ANY show to pieces if you try hard enough.
but I gotta say....
I don't like the way they are writing the gov. in the comic he is so so so ****ing bad...just so bad. yes they've throw in some badness in the show, but it's watered down compared to the comics. but even watered down do NOT forget that on this show....he kissed his zombie daughter ON THE MOUTH and then said "I can get used to the taste". this CLEARLY insinuates a sexual relationship, which jives with the comic and gives you insight into just how TRULY ****ed up he is!!!

but now they have him with a family like he's all good. if it were written more true to character he'd be eyeballing that little girl like the ****ed up perv he is. I had no doubt as soon as the good guy/bad guy scenario started happening, I thought, that good guy is dead. gov is gonna go with the bad guy....the dude from prison break.

also....the guy that the gov threw into the pit.....REALLY DUDE! you know better than anyone what a ****ed up guy the gov is! you accept him into your camp! then you turn your back on him standing next to a bag of clubs! buh bye dumbass.

also....and this REALLY cracked me up....we are to believe that the only way out was blocked by a mud pit full of zombies. right? that was the only way to drive out of there! come on man.

also....my wife doesn't agree....but I thought the gov was saying "I don't want it" as he was throwing that guy into the pit. I believe he was referring to being the boss. he didn't want to do that, but as soon as the guy showed weakness and admitted he didn't know if he could keep everybody safe, the gov was like....dammit, if you can't I will. yes?

(sorry for the book...just watched it last night. one of the more intriguing episodes in a while)

The character in the comic book has zero depth, he's a caricature of evil. So I actually prefer the show's take on the Governor. He's also a significantly smaller role in the comic book run.

I'd actually forgotten that he kissed Penny on the mouth in the show. Since they never revisited that, I'm going to write that off as something they started with and then decided they didn't like, so tossed it aside. I actually like the Family Man Gov (FMG), it's a nice departure from the lunatic that ended season 3.

Nah man, Martinez would have left him in the pit if it hadn't been for the little girl. But I think he could tell something had changed. And being the leader in this world would suck. You're constantly having to make decisions that are bad news for someone. I think Martinez saw the Governor as someone he could depend on to help lead.

It wasn't that he couldn't get around them. That was when he realized he and the new family were safer as part of a group, but that's also when he realized the only group that would be safe enough would be one he led.

I think you're partly correct. When he was throwing Martinez into the zombies he didn't want to lead. The Governor wants to be FMG, he doesn't want to make those tough decisions anymore. And Martinez is the only one that knows the Governor's old life, so he'd be the only one to ask him to help lead. However, I don't think that's when he decided to take over. After Ben(?) took over camp, FMG went out on the crew and discovered that their new leader was too weak to make tough decisions, so he grabbed his new family and left. That's when they came upon the walkers in the mud, which is when I think he made his decision.

Another good episode following the gubnuh. Honestly, this is the lifeblood of the show for me. Back out on the "road", trying to survive, dealing with marauders, etc. Its really gotten back to its roots.

The mid-season finale looks to be a great show as well. Can't wait for next week.

Was at the CBE Classic last night, people behind me were talking about the show.

Valiant 11-27-2013 10:43 AM

I guess I am the only one who didn't like it. Every thing the previous episode built up is gone. Now he is manipulating again.

I dont remember the penny kissing either. Which is good.

seaofred 11-27-2013 11:11 AM

It isn't, though. It's still there as a part of his character. We have a better idea what's motivating him now as a result of these two episodes. He isn't just the one-dimensional cartoonish villain he was before, but he still remains a violent psychopath.

Nailed it...these 2 episodes were necessary. Loved it

Bowser 11-28-2013 11:50 AM

So what exactly did the governor see in that group of zombies stuck in the mud that made him turn around, kill Pete(?) and take control of the group? One minute he was running with his new family to get them safe, then he sees walkers, decides **** ALL of this, turns around and goes back to being Woodbury Governor? Maybe he's just a little mentally unhinged, perhaps? lol

TambaBerry 11-28-2013 12:03 PM

I wonder if the main-cast-survivors will take in some of the Governor's group next half-season. I'm thinking mostly of the Gov's nurse girlfriend, and the woman who refused to fire at the big fight.

I'm still sitting here stunned. What a fantastic episode. It sucks they killed off Herschel. But I like how they took out the Governor. That arc needed to end well and it did. In the end, he was a psycho incapable of change. I'm glad they're out of the prison and on the run...its definitely going to be exciting. I need to get the comics at some point.

Start with the walking dead compendium 1 and 2

http://www.amazon.com/Walking-Dead-C...ead+compendium

mcaj22 12-01-2013 10:46 PM

they really watered down the Gov and I dont know how they are going to do the next guy who is like 10000000x worse than the Gov, watering him down would just ruin it.

I am bummed Hersh died because Scott Wilson is a good actor who carries the show, whereas most of the other characters cant build any depth or likeness because the people playing them can't sell their roles.

KevB 12-02-2013 12:36 AM

Scott Wilson and Lauren Cohan were really emotional during Talking Dead, damn.

Spoiler!

KChiefer 12-02-2013 12:38 AM

"Sword through the heart, and you're to blame, you give Gov a bad name!"

KC_Connection 12-02-2013 01:39 AM

Wow. Now that's how you end the Governor's story arc with what was perhaps the best episode in the show's history. In the end, it was well worth it to take the time to reboot his character in the fashion they did. It made this episode's conflict and the emotional gut punches it wrought all the more painful.

Tough to see Herschel go, but I wasn't all that surprised to see it after the central role his character played in the first half of this season.

TWD has completely changed for the better since the beginning of S4 (and the new showrunner) in a way that I didn't think was possible after last season. They're also now moving on from the prison, which I've thought they had to do for quite some time to advance the show.

Also, it hardly seems important at the moment, but they still haven't addressed who the person was that was feeding the zombies rats and dissecting animals (and for what purpose). It presumably wasn't the Governor or any of his people. That will no doubt be explored further in the 2nd half, but it could be somebody we still haven't met yet too.

P-90Rex 12-02-2013 01:58 AM

Yeah, lots of things left unanswered that I can't wait to get back to. The deal with the rats, is it the little girls? What about the radio signal from the med run? How will the group find each other, was there a rally point planned?

I love this show. I go back and forth on whether I should read the comics.
