Ballgame, best record

Marcellus 09-29-2013 02:51 PM

97 wins!

whoman69 09-29-2013 02:51 PM

come get your rep Redbird fans

whoman69 09-29-2013 03:12 PM

Cleveland wins, they are in the playoff and will be at home. Rangers up 3-2 in the top of the 7th. Looking like there will be a play-in game.

BigRedChief 09-29-2013 04:02 PM

Holy shit, who could have seen 97 wins and HFA in the playoffs? This team looked done several times.

I think they may have put in Kelly once they knew the Braves were pounding on the Phillies and they couldn't afford to lose the game. Glad to see it worked out. Westbrook, thanks for the 11th inning of Game 6. Now get the **** out.

Pepe Silvia 09-29-2013 08:42 PM

You guys ready for the post season? I feel a lot more comfortable facing the Reds/Pirates than I do the Dodgers. Their pitching staff is nails and we didn't play them well this year.

'Hamas' Jenkins 09-29-2013 09:34 PM

We can beat and/or lose to anyone. I just really worry about the lineup sans Craig. I know Adams is hot, but he's so strikeout prone, and w/ the way managers massage situational lefties in the PS, I fear that he's going to get picked on...a lot.

BigRedChief 10-01-2013 03:34 PM

Lynn to start game 2. :banghead:

http://www.stltoday.com/sports/baseb...be6074da7.html

I don't get this move at all. Matheny says is based on experience. He has one more year than Miller. I'm not a happy camper with this decision.

Pasta Little Brioni 10-01-2013 03:36 PM

Good to be the King

Mi_chief_fan 10-01-2013 04:02 PM

Just watched "Intentional Talk", both Rose & Millar picked Cards to lose in the World Series; Rose thinks the A's win it all, can you guess who Millar's pick is?

Of course, Bud Selig is dreaming of a Red Sox/Dodgers series.

1.09 ERA in his last 4 starts and 9-3 at home this season is pretty good logic.

I think Kelly is better on the road than Lynn also.

'Hamas' Jenkins 10-01-2013 05:37 PM

Don't really mind Lynn starting Game 2. I don't want him in a situation where the crowd is going to be whipped into a froth, and this guarantees that he wouldn't even make a road start in the playoffs until the ass end of the LCS, if they even get that far.

LDS: Game 2,
LCS: Game 1 or 2, Game5/6. Six would be at home.

Has a 6 inning limit. Probably want to get that out of the way when they have a travel day after. The team has a worse winning percentage with him pitching than the overall team win %.

'Hamas' Jenkins 10-01-2013 06:09 PM

As long as our pitchers throw strikes the rotation projects pretty well for October baseball. Good fastballs are worth more in the final month than the previous months, as the ball doesn't travel as far when hit and it's harder to get around on 96+ in colder weather.

So Cards fans, who are we pulling for tonight? I'm a little torn but in the end think I like our chances better against the Reds

It's better for us if the Reds win, but **** the Reds. I'm rooting for Pittsburgh.

Could care less, just hope it goes about 20 innings.

Not sure I've ever seen a baseball crowd get in a pitcher's head like that before.

The Reds are a better team than the Pirates. Given their run differentials, the Reds should have won 93 games and the Pirates 90. Plus, Cincinnati's rotation is a hell of a lot more terrifying than Pittsburgh's, and the back of their bullpen is better.

Cool. Now I don't feel guilty at all. :D

'Hamas' Jenkins 10-01-2013 06:50 PM

The one thing that would make me feel good about facing the Reds in a PS series is Dusty Baker, but other than that, their lineup is abjectly terrifying. Phillips kills us, Votto is an elite hitter, Choo and Bruce are damned good too, and that ballpark is the worst shitbox this side of Houston, rewarding banjo hitters and punishing scorched liners.

Clearly, it's gotten to him, now pitching exclusively from the stretch. He's like Carlos Zambrano.

The only thing that really scares me about the Reds is Chapman, he's the best hammer at the end of the game; Phillips is hurt, Votto's done nothing against the Cards this year, and if Latos is out, Bailey is their only starter to worry about.

chefsos 10-01-2013 07:00 PM

That was a pretty brutal E-6.

Cingrani is an absolutely terrible matchup for this team w/o Craig.

The only thing is the Reds seem tired. Beaten. It felt like they were down a couple of runs before the game even started.

The Pirates are hungry.

Yeah, but he's been out, too. Plus, I think small sample size has something to do with it as well.

The Pirates' rotation seems more gettable than the Reds' to me. Latos, Bailey, Cingrani, and Cueto are all capable of overpowering a lineup.

After Burnett and Liriano, Pittsburgh's rotation is pretty average, in spite of their ERA.

Lefty strikeout pitchers against Jay, Adams, and Beltran= bad things.

That was a close one for the buttpirates.

That's the operative question. And Timmons can't get out of the way of the ball. Not surprising, the mother****er can't see them behind the plate either.

I'd be down for a mild lat strain.

Anyone else think the audio feed is bizarre? It seems muffled, like only the first five rows are audible.

With Lynn out of the bullpen when a starter gets in trouble.

I'm happy for the Pitt fans. 1992 is a long time ago. Many a 100 loss seasons. Glad they had a good time. Really, no BS.

But, the run ends now. Just like the Braves, Nationals last year got their playoff run hopes crushed, your next.

Yeah it makes no sense to me either. I bet is they were playing Cincy instead there's a chance they would've left him off in favor of a third lefty, either Lyons or Freeman, with their lefty-heavy lineup.

rolltide2014 10-02-2013 07:43 PM

Who woulda ever thought Scrabble would be pitching in the playoffs this year? ROFL

Yeah the 2011 thread got really slow because it was so huge but we couldn't abandon the thread due to being afraid of pissing off the karma gods.

BigRedChief 10-03-2013 03:13 PM

I don't understand the tlaking heads on TV. Because Pitt had a good night and good crowd, that means they are favored and going to beat the Cardinals in 4?

Are we not playing at Busch? Don't we also have a long standing national reputation as having a good crowd?

Bringing up the RedSox in 2004. Is there anyone on this team that was on that team? The current team has a little more playoff experience since then anyway.
