We have an elite level punter. Who needs a QB?

Yup. Looks like it.

So you think his contract isn't indicative of what most teams thought of him?

He signed an incentive laden 1 year deal with a team desperate for corner backs. That team was also one of the only two he visited. That should tell you something.

I think that Rivers is a bit overrarted.

Certainly not elite level.

Top of the list of 2nd tier QBs.

Elite is Brady or Manning, a guy who wins championships and can singlehandedly make the difference between being a mediocre team vs a team that wins 11-13 games every year.

Rivers is a guy who's been 7-9, 8-8, or 9-7 in 5 of the last 6 years. And this has been with a team that until Manning arrived was hands down the most talented team in the West year after year according to the media. If Rivers is an elite QB with that kind of output, then Gunther Cunningham is an elite head coach.

Rivers is a pretty good QB when the pieces around him are right and he listens to coaches. He's Tony Romo essentially, good but not great to this point...

Chargers have a secondary of midgets-lol I think they might have the shortest secondary ever in the NFL. They just need to sign Mighty Mouse now!!

If I had a boat full of really good QBs that was sinking, he'd be the first one tossed out, probably screaming "PLEASE GOD NO! I HAVE 7 CHILDREN!"

LOLWUT? The Chargers haven't had the most talented team in the West since '09 if not even earlier than that. Anyone paying attention saw how AJ kept letting all the talent go and failing to replenish through the draft. Not that it mattered, as even the "talented" teams were wasted on Norv anyway.

I'm far from a Rivers apologist and quite frankly thought he was done a couple years ago, but he's better than he's given credit for. I'd glad we have him instead of, say, Alice Smiff.

Really? Welp, on that note CP, I'm gonna check out on a rare good note. I'll see you guys in mid-August after our first couple of preseason games, when the comedy opportunities will be as cheap and plentiful as those mini ****in Cadbury chocolate eggs during a Walgreens May 1st clearance sale.

It's easy to say that with hindsight, but frankly until Manning arrived last year, every year it was "the Chargers have all the talent in the world and are just underperforming."

Again, I'm not saying Rivers is a bad QB, but he hasn't proven to be elite. He's kind of in that second tier.

I don't think anyone is arguing that Alex Smith is elite, so that's not a great comparison. Was it better to hang on to Rivers than Brees? I think Brees has proven to this point to be the better QB...

But is that birth mark really worth a Super Bowl ring?

Around here, that's seen as a sure-fire way to improve your roster!

SD is not that great IMO

I didn't say that SD was great, and I don't think they are. They've been a mediocre team for years, being just 2 games over .500 in the last four year stretch. In response to the poster who decided to go full homer, I noted that they've owned the Chiefs in the last 7 outings. That's all.
