Kauffman Stadium outfield has saved a few runs tonight

Nice pitch

Either we were lucky that inning, to me it appeared that Staumont was all over the place, Salvy setting low, Josh hits him high, etc. or that was some great salesmanship by Saly!

3 Hit Nick

Santana has been a huge disappointment.

Damn, would have been nice to get a run there!

So after getting abused by the Cards, the Royals turn around and sweep the Astros. Baseball.

That was awesome

The Royals are still a bad team. They showed that against the Cardinals. None of the rest of the season should change how we feel about the staff, the front office or the players. We know they are all largely losers.

Average team - Yes! Call it like it is, the Royals have some talent to build on with an aging catcher ( looks like we have that in the minors too ), especially the young pitching. With the upcoming crew in the minors, they are closer to competing than most people here give them credit for. Our biggest hurdle IMHO is Matheny! I do not like his lineups, who he has on his roster nor how he handles the pen! I do believe that he will keep us from reaching anything more than a few playoff appearances. |
MJ Melendez 31 jacks tied for MiLB high with Griffin Conine. Son of our old friend Jeff Conine, who is the assistant coach at Florida Internatiobal.
The head coach: MJ’s dad, Mervy. |
Let's try this again.

Until he breaks a nail and is out for the season.

Nicky Lopez, home run hitter.

MOAR POWER NICKY!!!

Oh dear Mondi. Let's just call it a season, buddy.

Nicky Lopez is dominating the Houston Astros.

Looking forward to that Nicky Lopez statue in the outfield concourse

This is 2014-15 level defense by the Royals today

If Nicky had won the game they would have had to retire his number right there.

Smart move, bringing in Davis here Matheny.
|
I'm not quite sure what they're waiting for with Davis (in terms of DFA'ing him) It seems like there are a lot of arms in Omaha that could be up instead, but maybe the Royals have them working on something. Idk. It's not like a recent thing. Davis has been so ineffective since 2018 that this is actually his best season in 4 years.
|
I loved you Wade Davis. Still do actually. But it’s time to put you out to pasture. Thanks for some awesome ends of some awesome games.
Good night sweet prince. |

BB: 1st (more than twice as many as any other player on the team) OBP: 2nd OPS: 2nd HR: 2nd R: 2nd RBI: 2nd Find better things to complain about. Carlos Santana is not even close to the biggest problem with this team. |
Question for all the smart baseball people here…Duncan, PB, not BWillie, etc. Is Nicky Lopez “a piece” for a World Series team? I know nothing about advanced analytics, but the eye test to me seems like he’d be a great middle infielder and #9 hitter on a championship team.
|
Why does DM insist on keeping Wade Davis on this roster? Why give Matheny the option to use him in a high leverage situation? Those two need to kill themselves ASAP

If he’s an plus-plus defender at 2B who gets on base at a .350 slip, you’re basically talking about a 2B version of Escobar who actually is more valuable offensively. Yeah, I could see him working as a MI on a contender. The key is if he can hit enough to make pitchers work him carefully. He has done that this year, which lets his plate discipline play up. |
Can any of you tell me how Davis has pitched since coming off the IL?
From what I can determine he’s pitched in 4 games in July and 8 games in August and given up earned runs in 2 of them. 2 earned runs on 8/13 vs the Cards and 2 earned runs today (8/19) vs the Astros. Obviously he hasn’t been perfect, but he sure as heck hasn’t been horrible. |

A few random notes:
Jeison Guzman played CF last night in NWA. Not sure if he's been doing that already or if this is new. Will be interesting to see if this was a one-off deal or if they are trying to re-position him. He becomes a bit more interesting if he could develop into a strong defensive CF. Heasley seems to have adjusted to AA and has turned in a pretty impressive August thus far. He's one of those guys that could make the team in bullpen next year out of ST and see quick success at max effort in shorter clips. Junis moved from Arizona to Omaha and pitched last night. Question: Is there a place where the rookie ball teams list their scoreboard and box scores? |
Quote:
Guzman has been playing some Of all season. Think that started in the extended ST last year. Each minor league affiliate has a website. You can get to stats and box scores there. Dairon Blanco is also worth watching. He’s a CF and just got moved to Omaha. He’s an older guy - 28 - from Cuba. He plays good D and put up an 800+ OPs at AA with 32 bags. |

Jump on the train, the kids from the farm is coming, more pitching is coming. Now if we could only get us a good manager I would feel good about them. As for now, it's a wait and see approach. |

Merrifield's D has drastically ticked up this year, though. He has played a really excellent 2B (the eye test backs that up, too). So I'm not sure where you're getting the "declining" defense comment from. His defensive value dropped as a slightly below average CF/RF, but he's still a plus 2B. Looking at his advanced batting profile, the biggest concern is that he is hitting a higher number of ground balls and those ground balls have come at the expense of his line drive rate. Which has dampened his BA. His exit velocity and barrel rates (big indicators) are right in line with how Merrifield performed when he hit for higher averages with more pop. He's never been a big exit velocity guy. The biggest issue is the launch angle/groundball rate. It hasn't seen a drastic change. That's not something I'd tie to physical decline. He's still on pace to be a 4-win player at 2B, though, because of the defense and baserunning. |
Game this afternoon, KC @ CHC... Keller 7-12 5.62 vs. Davies 6-9 5.00...

Watching the Royals game they are showing the Blue Angels flying around Chicago. This weekend is the annual Air and Water Show in there. Four years ago my girlfriend and I went to Chicago to a Cubs game (just to check Wrigley off the list) and it happened to be that same weekend. We sat at the very top of the stadium and had fun watching the jets fly around the skyscrapers and then they'd pass over the ballpark and rile the crowd up. Singing Go Cubs Go after they won was a lot of fun.
I highly recommend to anyone (Cubs fan or not) who has never been to take in a day game at Wrigley. We stayed in a hotel about a mile from the stadium so we walked to and from. It being a beautiful day that day didn't hurt. I count it as one of the best days of my life. And when they call it the friendly confines...that's not just a name. |
