Did the Chiefs tell Jones that he could seek a trade? I see a bunch of probably clickbait articles about teams he could go to but I haven't actually read them since they're probably bullshit but it seems unlikely anyone would offer him Donald money so why not let him humble himself by letting like the browns or something tell him what the chiefs are telling him

How many guys are going to be asked to rework their deals if Jones shows up tomorrow?

I love how everybody gives this quoted comment a thumbs up.

Dude does not even know the salary cap situation.

You don't think the Chiefs are prepared for him to show up and play?

Yeah, or more likely, he gets injured trying to ramp up and keep up with other players are in midseason and playoff ready form. Or we drop a game due to the defense and lose the 1st seed and maybe have to play on the road for the AFCCG or some other playoff game.

Those are more likely than him coming in after 10 months of no football and being his normal self.

I see your point but I dont agree with this common take. I think a well rested player is much less injury prone than a worn down one who has had stress on his joints, muscles and tendons for months.

Even if he shows up cant the Chiefs hold him out for a week or two anyway and withold the pay? I remember reading something about such flexibility.

Well the plan may be what I suggested if they want to be able to make any signings during the season.

A lot of people look at the new money, it seems

You're crazy if you think the Chiefs don't have contingency plans for the cap. But even if I accept your premise, how is the Chiefs' cap situation Jones's problem? If the Chiefs are really so desperate to get his 2023 cap number down then this holdout would be even dumber than it is already. Showing up would be leverage.

Brett Veach is going to NOT be hopeful of this 404 ass whoopin coming his way soon!

I know but you can't just ignore that the same contract is also paying for this year also.

This offer seems very fair by the Chiefs. I hope Jones takes it. This is probably the only scenario where he plays for KC next year. My second preference would be for Jones to play out this year's contract then go on the market with missing as few games as possible. I think he would play hard this season to get his payout. My third preference would be for Jones to comeback half way through the season. This makes no sense for Jones, because he will lose all of those game checks, which will exceed what he gets on the market. He also has to play well in the games he plays in to get his pay day. My fourth choice would be to trade Jones. We won't get near the value, but it is better than nothing. My fifth preference would be for the Chiefs to cave on Jones and pay him the $84 M his asking. I think this is the least likely thing to happen. My least favorite outcome is for Jones to miss the entire season. This would be a financial disaster for Jones.

I think there are a couple things to mention here:
1/ The Chiefs *do* contractually have CJ on the books this year for a 19.5mm base salary. There's a value to that asset that we have at a below market rate. And we got that value - and planned the entire roster around it - because of the contract we signed him to in 2020. If we just, say, re-write this year of the contract to bring it up to market at ~24.5mm, we've given up the value of that asset.
2/ Not to mention the fact that when the deal was designed in the first place, we knew given the structure of the contract that next year would have essentially a poison pill franchise tag value that would benefit CJ tremendously as it would make it prohibitively difficult to keep him.

Chris Jones is tearing us apart

Can’t we all go back to collectively hating CEH?
