Is it because Sean Smith sucks? Do I generally go on crusades against good players? |

Weren't you frothing at the mouth after the Hillis "Bane" signing? Look how that turned out. Sometimes signings look good and end up sucking, while others are the exact opposite. I don't know much about the guy (I'd wager you don't either, outside of your Holy Grail PFF rankings and a couple gifs you just dredged up), but he's a veteran player at a position in which we're extremely thin. His signing doesn't rule out the likelihood that we'll look to draft another CB so I'll give the guy a chance in red and gold before I crucify him. |
Catch percentage looks decent. Young, athletic player with CB1 experience. What's to hate? Not a huge contract.

And he was the worst CB in football in 2011... So that's two years of solid production. |
I must have missed where people are expecting to have the best CB tandem in the league. **** off, Clay. He's a nice little experiment

But all stats aside, what coverage schemes did/do the Dolphins run? What would you say are some of Smith's strengths (don't say none) and his most glaring weaknesses? |

GO SEAN SMITH! |

Sean Smith is a solid player against tall, slow receivers that he can get his hands on and doesn't need fluid hips to defend. He struggles against any player that can burn right by him and good route running. He is putrid in zone and he is better in man, but he's not great in it. The Dolphins didn't run THAT much zone as their base defense was cover 1, but they did like to run it whenever they blitzed. |
