All I could do was apologize for being an asshole to him in the past and offer an ear. What else can we do?

By making a post on a message board?

The guy wants to kill himself. He says bye to his online friends. Doesn't matter what we post. If nobody can call him up/talk to him directly, it's all irrelevant.

Plenty of people sent him PMs and offered help.

I don't feel bad. He's been a one who sucks the penis to a lot of people around here. At the time he deserved my assholishness. In the grand scheme of things now though, I wanted him to know I regretted it. 2 wrongs don't make a right and such.
