I don't know if this was the case here... but those cameras are much better in low light situations than the human eye. It's entirely possible the stadium is much darker to the human eye than it will be on TV.

NASCAR delays races all the time, especially a rain-delayed night event. Every year, thousands of fans travel great distances to watch the crashes (LOL) I'm talking about having to wait 5 hours to watch the race.
