I think there should be a 4-3 team like the Falcons who should be willing to pay Gillberry some money.

Jaguars.

Bailey and a draft pick could do what Gilberry did this year.

I like Belcher and I don't think he is costing us that much.

Why? Gillberry is a situational player Belcher is ok.

Gilberry is a big part of our situational pass rush packages and does a phenomenal job. Teams have to respect him and that opens it up for the linebackers to get a lot of pressure. He and Bailey play very important roles in this defense that is developing into what could be one of the leagues best defenses with Pittsburgh getting long in the tooth and Baltimore on its absolute last legs.

Belcher is our linebacker version of Brandon Carr.

Small school kids that showed from the opening bell that the stage wasn't too big and both have grown by leaps and bounds with each year in the league.

I don't think Belchers ceiling is as high (relatively) as Carrs, but that he plays the role of 3-4 "thumper" as well as almost anyone.

There aren't many thumpers I would take on this team over Belcher, especially for the cost.

I agree Boss about Belcher, but I don't think he is costing us THAT much. He's also a RFA so there is that.

The core of this team is built. Now we need to start upgrading spots from "it's ok, it works for now" to better players. I don't want to upgrade Belcher as I think he is still growing alot.

However if losing Gilberry allows us to sign Soliai or Grubbs I'd do that in a heartbeat.

I don't think we can let either of those guys leave, either.

I tend to agree.
Even though I don't think Gilberry improved as much as I expected him to last season.

We need to sign the guys we already have in house that are doing a good job and use the draft picks to select players we actually have a need for.

Id be surprised if we retain Gilberry, but for the right price...we need to.

BossChief 02-10-2012 04:08 PM

At the end of the day, Belcher will be tendered and Gilberry will be given a reasonable offer to re-sign but will probably end up going elsewhere where he can play a bigger role and get a bigger paycheck.

If that happens, I can deal with it.

O.city 02-10-2012 04:08 PM

I would like to keep Gilberry, but like I said, if he wants too much I'd rather use that to spend on someone else who could be more of a help.

Yeah and really Gilberry can be replaced.

Carr and Bowe are have to resign players. Belcher will be tendered.

However, if we can use Gilberry's money and add some to it to sign Grubbs or Soliai i'm fine with him leaving.

I disagree with you on Belcher being Carr. Carr is the most consistent player on the team. Belcher is a good thumper as you say against the run he's nice but I'm still not impressed with him in passing situations. I don't think there will be a huge market for him so yea I wouldn't mind keeping him as he does some good things.

O.city 02-10-2012 04:13 PM

The thing with Belcher is that he is still ascending as a ILB and really physically. I think Gilberry has reached his ceiling for the scheme we play.

I think Belcher can get alot better in the ppassgame.

KCrockaholic 02-10-2012 04:14 PM

We could upgrade from Belcher. But replacing him shouldn't be a priority. It would be nice to have our own version of Patrick Willis and Navarro Bowman, but it's not necessary right now. As far as defense goes the only positions in need of improvement are Nose Tackle, safety depth, ILB depth, and then DE depth if we lose Gilberry.

I just wish that cap was put in place this year instead of next. You just know that the Chiefs will stay as far under the cap this year as they possibly can to put more money in Clark's pocket.

O.city 02-10-2012 04:16 PM

I'm not really one to say Belcher needs to be upgraded. His role as the thumper in the defense would be automatically upgraded by adding someone like Soliai in front of him.

The dude is 24 years old. He's not even to his prime age yet and he is still growing.
