I am surprised at the amount of respect still given to the flag and the song, especially after what happened in NAM

I too would prefer America the Beautiful, but as an instrumental the Star Spangled Banner is too familiar to the world. I don't think it would have the impact to have America the Beautiful played as an instrumental during the olympics.

America the Beautiful is about how pretty the mountains look. BFD

I'm not that patriotic of a guy - frankly I think patriotism is more than a little reeruned. I mean, the only reason anyone thinks America is the "greatest nation on earth" (which is a ridiculous concept - as if such a thing can be qualified) is because you were born here. but dammit the Star Spangled Banner kicks ass.B
