new ones are more efficient so i don't know about an older model

that's pretty low. This article estimates it around $150 for an upright.

anyone know of a good reasonably priced butcher in the KC area?

Saulbadguy 08-05-2012 06:23 PM

stop eating so much beef, jesus people

Yeah inflation really isn't even an issue right now. In terrible economies where nobody is buying anything, it usually isn't.

What about the electricity efficiency of a newer vs older model and how much would a small freezer really add to your electric bill each month?

I'm sure there is a great deal of deviation in energy consumption between models/years/size. As far as an electric bill, a lot of it depends on where the freezer is placed. If it's outside on an enclosed deck, or something like that, it going to take some power to keep it cool in the summer. There are a lot of things to take into consideration. The great thing is, there is information on about every model on-line, which can be found with a bit of hunting.

sorry, I should have phrased it better, I wasn't questioning, just saying how cheap a new one is to operate versus and old one. and pointing out how bad uprights are compared to chests.

Ours is rated at $39/yr, but it's just a cheap $150 one from Sams.

Beef or Chicken on a menu... I am ordering the beef....

mikeyis4dcats. 08-05-2012 06:32 PM

we eat beef usually once or twice a week. Plus I'll eat beef for lunch via fast food 2 or 3 days. We try to have fish, pork, chicken and beef all one night a week. The other nights are either a double-up or vegetarian.

I'm sure your local golden corral has both on the buffet, hayseed.
