Glenn ****ing Dorsey's absence makes this defense a lot better.

Between Bailey and catapano, I am surprisingly stoked about our d line depth. The guy is inconsistent, but flashed some really serious potential this preseason. He should improve that consistency by getting more quality reps.

Anyone know how he did yesterday for the 49ers? Box score says 1 tackle

Brock 09-09-2013 10:12 AM

Credit where it's due: pioli made a couple of picks that were pure jackpots.

He actually played pretty well. But then, the Packers oline is pretty bad.

I will never truly hate Jon Baldwin, because the trade down for him landed us the pick that got Houston.

Well a lot of good points made pro & con.

For me i see this D will holding a lot of opponents to 20 pts or less. So if we can get to 21 points we going to win a lot games. Yes there will be a couple of games they will give up 30+( Redskins, Texans, Broncos 2X), but far more under 20. So 8-8 should be a lock. If the O gets a little more consistent 10-6, 11-5 is not unrealistic.

Case in point he had Jones Drew short of the first down but decided to tackle him head high. On another play he simply whiffed. Rest of the D was pretty good but a weak link is a weak link.

I only noticed one missed tackle by Lewis which is a big improvement imo. I'll have to watch again tonight.

Houston said he is going after the sack record of 22 in an interview after the game. He is 19 away with 15 to play. Big dream but he gets 22 and Chiefs are in post season

Catapano is WAY underrated! He would have been a 3rd round pick if he had gotten a combine invite. The more playing time he gets the more plays he makes...go watch the film of Jacksonville game again and look at him closely. Kid is a BEAST! Watch how fast Catapano discards his guy and gets in on Chad Henne to end the game on 4th and goal...looked like he was shot out of a rocket! How many guys move like that at 280 lbs?? This defense has some SERIOUS players. Big test next week but I look forward to watching this D against high powered Dallas O.

I'm sorry I ever doubted Dorsey's scouting.

* Let me say that again: you cannot run against the Chiefs. Jackson and DeVito are already incredibly good against the run, and Poe has finally developed to be perhaps the best of the bunch. Catapano has proven himself adept as well. Houston, Berry, Jordan, and DJ all serve their roles brilliantly in plugging gaps.
Teams that allowed fewer yards per carry in week 1 than the Chiefs:

Browns
Titans
Jets
Packers
Steelers
Falcons
Panthers
Broncos
Cardinals
Ravens
Bengals
Bears

Also of note: none of the above teams played the Jaguars.

Sorter 09-09-2013 11:57 AM

The Falcons on that list is somewhat surprising.

This is the only thing you said with which I can agree.

SeeingRed 09-09-2013 01:08 PM

This is going to be a BIG challenge!! This is a team that can really air it out....Romo has multiple weapons. That said if this D can hold the Cowboys in check then Denver wouldnt be all that unreasonable. BIG step up in competition this week.
