Still dig the shit out of Sturgill.
A Sailor's Guide to earth was pretty decent. I thought the Nirvana cover of In Bloom was good. Hoping he's got something planned for 2018. |
I've listened to a ton of Sturgill the past couple of years. I ****ing love A Sailor's Guide as an album. It's something that took me 5 or 6 full listens to really dig but it's my favorite work of his. A country concept album with a sprinkling of fusion and grunge and whatever the **** else he decided to do. A lot of the lyrics resonate very well with me having my first born son in the last year as well. All around fan.

This is what country was supposed to be. For real America. Before country tried to appeal to the coasts. The kind of country that city people don't understand. This is the real s***.

I'm still a big Turnpike Troubadours fan.
Highly recommend for anyone looking for something different in country. |

Turnpike has a new album coming out I think in October.
Sturgill said a few years ago that he was making 3 more albums and falling off of the earth. I believe that was 2 albums ago. I hope he makes a new one soon and then changes his mind about the original statement. |
saw sturgill two years ago at ACL and he was great. his band rocks. check out margo price too. she writes her own stuff , is smart, and also has a great band

Nashville isn't concerned with people in Seattle, San Fran, Los Angeles, Portland, etc. Nashville is SO preprogrammed it's freaking unbelievable. They produce music that sells to their core audience. End of story. |
Have any of you guys heard of "Hick Hop"?
I was asked to do a 12 song Hick Hop album for a prominent library just last week. I'll write all of the music and perform all of the instruments while they'll have a "Beatz" guy provide all of the Hip Hop style drums. They said it's a huge emerging genre. Any thoughts? |
