He's a very good player.

I have no problem with paying him as such.

If he wants to be paid like a GREAT player, then I think you've gotta tag and trade.

Here's a hypothetical: let's say Jones in particular and the rest of the D completely shuts down our opponents the rest of the season, we don't have to do too much on offense and win the Superbowl. Does that change anyone's thinking on paying the man?

You could say that about any player. What about Mahomes? Should we not pay him because he would suddenly be 'rich'? You discuss the Redskins and Haynesworth but Haynesworth had a reputation prior to the Redskins signing him. After he signed it, before he even played for DC, many were excoriating the Redskins because they could see that Haynesworth was going to do this. You are correct that it is a risk for any player to get a big contract and have his play diminish. Jones, though, has been solid for us for a few years. His play this year is in line with the previous years.

It is a risk but the question is not whether it's a risk but whether its a reasonable risk. Given the way Jones has played and how Veach has generally structured cap-friendly deals,* I think we should keep him. Players of his calibre do not come along frequently.

* I say this and someone will point to someone whose contract sucks, like Sammy Watkins. But we can void Watkins' contract after this year and take a relatively small cap hit, unlike Berry or Houston. All in all, Veach has managed the cap better than Dorsey.

Mahomes is extremely competitive. You never worry about giving guys like that a big contract because they want to win. Jones seems like a big goofball, not sure how competitive he is.

You have to look to pay players who are competitive and passionate about football when giving big contacts. Our coaches and hopefully scouts know enough about Jones to make that decision.

I still wouldn't give him Donald money in that scenario. Maybe if he gets a dozen sacks between now and then.

It would sure be nice if Mahomes takes a team friendly deal. I don't expect it to happen but if I were Mahomes I'd do it.

What the hell are you gonna buy with 40 mil that you can't buy with 20 mil?????

And when Prescott gets $40M early this offseason Mahomes then will cost $50M AAV

Stupid phone. Didn’t mean to thumbs down this. My bad. And I agree.

What I’d like to see is the old bag of cash trick. Plus get him in on a producing well. For like a grand or something reeruned.

And then make press releases about how big of a deal it is that he took a discount. Get him positive PR, cash money and an oil well or 30.

Why can't Hunt just have Mahomes do some kind of publicity stuff for his soccer/basketball teams and drop him 10 mil from those spots?? Seems like I read somewhere Kraft did something similar to that for Brady.
