AIDS?

The very phrase "BECAUSE CHIEFS" is en exorcise in the psychology of the battered fan.


It says, we don't get to win, "BECAUSE CHIEFS".

It says, we will find a way to lose "BECAUSE CHIEFS".

It says, I can't enjoy this because I've had my heart broken too many times. It says I am unable to believe that we finally have a team that can do this, because in the past we didn't.

None of that has any bearing on this season, on this team.

IF we don't win, it'll be because of injuries. Plain and simple. We are the better team.

IF we don't win, I won't despair beyond a half hour or so after game time. We have Patrick Mahomes, and our window is just opening and will remain open for the next decade plus.

We have flipped the script on our achilles heel; I no longer feel a sense of dread when our defense takes the field. I expect them to get a stop, because they usually do.

That's all we wanted, a decent defense to pair with Patrick Mahomes. We've got it.

Am I dismissing concerns? Absolutely not. Some of you are so beaten down I don't know why you bother to watch the games but you're certainly missing my point.

And you're missing a LOT of the joy of this wonderful sport, the best of all team games, and the joy of having a team poised and ready to make history.

YOU'RE MISSING IT. Because you're suffering from PTSD. You don't understand that the last 50 years of heartbreak has nothing in common with the present.

Do I have concerns? Of course. We're likely going to draw the Titans, who always give us fits and already beat us once, although we had to try pretty hard to give it to them.

The Patriots look vulnerable, but are still The Patriots until they are proven otherwise.

And while we've beaten Lamar's Ravens twice in the past 12 months, and that was before this defense was playing well, they are indeed a formidable opponent and one built in our opposite image.

And the NFC contenders are all either good, solid football teams or have Hall of Fame QB's under center and anything can happen when that's the case.

So yeah, of course there are concerns.

I am not cocky.

I BELIEVE.

That's not the same thing.

I'm not missing anything, I'm simply not predicting a SB win. I know this franchise as well as anybody, and I know they're too accepting of losing, allowing players to leave some of their energy on the field, a coaching staff that takes their foot off the gas when they should be pouring it on, and they're a franchise that doesn't play the game within the game. Those things usually add up to some team getting the better of them along the way.

That being said, if that doesn't happen this time, woot, we all win.

When we finally break through and win a Super Bowl, we can then truly enjoy our Sundays again.

I'm enjoying them NOW. I'm enjoying watching a generational talent at QB in my team's colors get BETTER every game. I'm enjoying watching him do things nobody's ever seen before. I'm enjoying watching him change the way people look at the position.

I'm going to enjoy every game until he hangs it up, because I understand how truly special this is. I've waited my whole life to have a player like that on MY team to root for.

specifically right now I'm enjoying watching the defensive coaching staff turn this defense around completely in one season. I'm enjoying watching Clark and Jones, and oh my do I love me some Honey Badger.

I'm enjoying it. It's special.
