I am self-employed and already work from home. But work related to trade shows has all been cancelled, including attendance, which is a good chunk of my income. So I've lost work. Next may be rental income lost but so far so good. So I suffering some income losses. Thank god I don't need a whole lot.

No category in the poll applies to me.

What do you do, BEP, if you don't mind me asking?

Many ISP's have opened up their wireless connections. Good, unless you are in a rural area.

But kids do have hotspots on phones. Time to use them.

Yea I have high end net speed the issue is half the school district is rural.

Being the fact that I am a RN means I don't get to huddle in the safety and protection of my home.

My Wife and I were talking about that very thing last night. She tells me "I'm so glad I retired when I did or I would never be home". She was a MSN.

This’ “essential” list is still weird to me.

Some to me are obvious, others just seem to be self-declarations. In my case, I had already left the Secretary of Defense’s office for other reasons but guys from the shop still ask my opinions.(essential? staff work?)

In my Engineering firm board position, the firm is deemed “essential” due to supplying components to large firms. In fact due to this, we have many more contracts (many of which are non-medical) as large firms are moving to lock down their suppliers.

In managing, my farms, again determined “essential’. Here,no shit. I’ve also seeing more contract offers (futures) to lock in the prices and supply of corn and soybeans from large food producers. I recently sold/delivered grain from many of my bins. Not my typical volume this time of year, when the fields are not producing. I like having more of a reserve in the bins. Who knew Tostitos was essential?

Also depends on where you are a RN. I live in San Diego, and while California has many issues, it does a good job of protecting their RNs.

Thanks. Kinda flips the “thank you for your service” targets of the last 20 years. But I have several family members doing the same and know it was always deserved but now more so for your choice and service. thanks again.

I've worked from home for over twenty years, so that part is normal. Not getting on a plane for the last three weeks is absolutely bizarre, however.

why the hell would any school district claim to do that???

I have done some online teaching for weather days and days I am absent. It works, but also is not the same as being there. No one can expect that. Admin should understand that.

If kids are not doing it at school, they will not do it at home. And I will not have to deal with their BS every day.

That would be the logical reasoning. I feel for my wife for the pure nonsense she has to deal with on a daily basis.

farmerchief 03-24-2020 10:22 AM

Most farmers go to work everyday, especially those of us in remote areas, who dont have to be around anybody but family members. Unless we have to run into local town for parts. Local JD dealer has locked their front doors to customers, if you need parts, they ask you to order from phone, when they have your parts they will call you and you can pick up at front door. Not a real inconvenience.

I normally look up parts online anyway, and give them the part #'s, makes everyones life easier.

Were still doing maintenance and repairs on equipment in my shed, too wet to think about any work in the fields. Normally we would be thinking about doing a "burndown" spray to kill weeds in fields we intend to plant in May, but the extended wet weather has put than on hold.
