43 points off 206 yards passing is a pretty clear indication that your defense/ST won the game for you...

I certainly don't think the defense is LOD level and as far as Lynch, I'll take Williams and Gordon and be happy. SEA won the SB when Marshawn was the lynchpin for that ground game (rock me)... they had about 2100 rushing yards and 14 rushing TDs that season. Wilson had 500 yards rushing.

Wilson doesn't need to be that ground threat... Williams and Gordon combined for 1900 yards and 12 TDs last season, they'll increase that mark and provide solid options in the passing game.

Lynch had 1600 total yards (1200 rushing) and 14 total TDs. I think Williams alone gets almost there on yards and should could close to those total TDs as well.

Let's be honest, that SB was a shitshow from the first play. That first drive was followed by multiple turnovers and punts - the Seahawks' offense just had to pivot the game plan at that point to chew up the clock and pound them into submission. Wilson wasn't really required to do much - he was 18 of 25 for 206 yards and 2 TDs.

Mahomes was 26 of 42 for 286 yards with 2 TDs, 2 INTs and a rushing TD in his SB win.

It's not like he was much more glamourous... he had to actually work for it for 4 quarters. I'm sure he would have preferred not needing to score 10+ points to win it in the 4th.

We can go back and forth on who looked better or who was more impactful in their Super Bowl win, but bottom line, both guys got the job done when they had to and helped bring home the trophy. Russ was much more athletic back then, but there's no question he benefitted from playing with an all time defense. Something Mahomes has never had in his NFL career. He and the offense have had to carry the water for this team from Day 1 when he became the starter. The defense has had its moments, but overall the last 4 years has not been a good unit. Anywhere from average to really bad.

That said, Mahomes is young, fairly athletic and two years removed from his Super Bowl win, one year from a second Super Bowl appearance and coming off four straight conference Title games. There's no reason to think he won't be back again soon, as long as the Chiefs keep drafting well.

Russ hasn't sniffed a Super Bowl or even conference Title game since 2015. Same for Denver who has been awful since Manning rode off into the sunset. Both are 7 years removed from any true meaningful game. So now the coming together of these two are going to produce regular playoff appearances and Super Bowls? Yeah, not buying it. Especially in a much improved division where now it's not only the Chiefs you have to get through.

Good luck, though, I guess . . . . . .

It may not produce a SB win, nothing is a guarantee... Pat may never get back, Marino never did. Denver is a better team now than in 2021 - that's all I can ask for and hope they do the right things to stay competitive going forward. The division is a beast - same for the AFC as a whole.

TomBarndtsTwin 07-22-2022 02:16 PM

Oh I get nothing is guaranteed. I'm just trying to understand how Russ thinks Denver + Russ = Lombardi, going off our last 7 years of data for both.

Yes, Denver is a better team. But the AFC West is now a better overall division, so it may not matter now. You're still 3rd or 4th, likely.

His first season hasn't begun and Wilson is already too easy of a target. About over it
